Wednesday December 31, 2014: Spend a moment this morning honoring who or what you’ve said goodbye to over the past year. Then sit back and get comfortable, let a calmness settle over the day. Avoid conflicts and enjoy the uniqueness of the moment.
You might feel restless, but this is not the New Year’s Eve to party hardy, over indulge or be on the roads. If you need to shake the restlessness go for a run or to the gym. Comfort matters more than a wild time on this New Year’s Eve. Best to ring in the New Year with a quiet evening on the couch, staying warm, and taking pleasure in the quiet surroundings.
Thoughts for the New Year…
The spirit of adventure often settles over you slowly. In the beginning, when the winds of change blow, you turn your back, fight, and resist. You want things to remain the same… but then gradually you heed the call of the wild, let go of the need to control, allow change to happen, embrace it and allow the change to change you.
Soon you’re looking forward to taking the next step, anxious to see what lies ahead… where the path will lead, who you’ll meet along the way and what you’ll learn… you become excited… perhaps even consumed by the adventure.
You’ve learned to tolerate change. Now embrace it. This coming year cultivate a spirit of adventure in your life… and let the winds of change continue to blow.
Remember, your life itself is the adventure… go where it leads and enjoy!
I wish you a happy, prosperous and adventurous 2015.
I’d like to repeat the advice that I gave you before, in that I think you really should make a radical change in your lifestyle and begin to boldly do things which you may previously never have thought of doing, or been too hesitant to attempt. So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservatism, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic core of a man’s living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun….
… My point is that you do not need me or anyone else around to bring this new kind of light in your life. It is simply waiting out there for you to grasp it, and all you have to do is reach for it. The only person you are fighting is yourself and your stubbornness to engage in new circumstances. ~ Jon Krakauer, Into the Wild
