It is often said that the quality of a society can be seen by how it treats its most vulnerable citizens. In the US and in too many other nations of the world we see religious superstitions taking precedence over the most vulnerable and helpless segment of society: children.
Just this past week New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio put the interests of Judaism far above the interests of infants. He did this when he agreed with Jewish clergy that rabbis/mohels who practice the ungodly, repulsive and unnatural Jewish ritual of metzitzah b’peh, in which the rabbi/mohel uses their mouth to suck blood directly from the mutilated and bloody penis of an eight-day-old infant who has just been circumcised, do not have to have parents sign a statement stating the grave danger this religious superstition presents their helpless children. The reason for the signature of the parents previously being required is that some children who have this religious attack committed against them get infected with herpes by the rabbi/mohel. Since 2000 there have been 17 known cases of infants being infected with herpes, two of them suffered brain damage and two others have died. Mayor de Blasio instead is requesting that when this religious assault against an infant takes place which does result in the infant being infected with herpes that the rabbi/mohel be tested to see if the child was infected through them. If this is shown to be true by the DNA test the New York City Health Department will then forbid the rabbi/mohel from ever performing this grotesque Jewish practice again. If Judaism and the government really valued and cared for children the Jewish ritual of metzitzah b’peh would be outlawed completely. Why wait until more infants are infected? Also, even if a rabbi/mohel is ordered by the health department never to perform this ritual again, it does not mean they will follow the order. This complete disregard for law was already exhibited by the Jewish clergy by many of them not having parents sign the required notification of the dangers involved in metzitzah b’peh.
Why do some Jews endorse this barbaric religious ritual? The New York Times revealed the answer when it quoted an Orthodox Jew who is the head of the American Board of Ritual Circumcision, A. Romi Cohn. The paper interviewed Cohn and reports, “We do it because Hashem commands us, and because it’s healthy and necessary,” he said, using a Hebrew word referring to God, after conducting a bris, or circumcision ceremony, last month at a synagogue in Midwood, Brooklyn. “Whenever God tells us to do something, it is to our benefit.” In short, they believe God told them to commit this crime against children and Nature.
Another case of religious superstitions taking priority over the welfare of children is faith-healing. It is estimated that faith-healing kills on average one child per month in the US alone. Currently in the US many states have religious exemptions which legally allows religious parents to withhold medical care from their children even to the point of killing the child. This clearly demonstrates children are not as important as religious superstitions.
The reason many Christians believe in the false Bible promise of faith healing is because it is taught in the Bible and they mistakenly believe the Bible is the Word of God. Like the Jew quoted above, they believe it is something God told them to do.
Yet another example of a religious superstition taking a priority over children is exorcism. The foolish religious belief in Satan, devils, demons and jinn brings about the imagined need for exorcisms. After all, if you believe like Jesus and Mohammed that Satan and demons are real, then you must believe in the religious power to remove these evil creatures. Exorcisms have taken the lives of children as well as adults who had parents or family and friends belonging to Christianity, Islam and Buddhism.
Two sad cases of children being killed due to religious superstitions and teachings are the cases of Andrea Yates and Deanna Laney. Both of these women were Bible believing Christian women and mothers of beautiful children. Yates believed she was possessed by Satan and that Satan would possess her five sons once they reached “the age of accountability.” She, therefore, murdered them all by drowning them in their bathtub.
Laney believed the ungodly Bible story of God telling Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac found at Genesis 21:1-12. Like many people she mistakenly believed the Bible claims God told Abraham to kill his son because God was testing Abraham’s faith. In fact, in verse 12 the Bible gives the reason for God telling Abraham to kill Isaac as God wanting to know if Abraham feared God enough to actually do it. What a complete and total insult to God and what a real danger to children this Bible story is!
How and what can we do to protect the children? As shown above, followers of the “revealed”/hearsay religions believe God has given them these commands and orders which in reality are a very real threat to children and do not originate with The Supreme Intelligence/God but originate in the sick and twisted minds of the ancient men who created the “revealed”/hearsay religions. If these sincere believers could be made to reason, instead of going on faith which is void of reason as the clergy teach them to do, they would realize the truth that God gave us reason and not religion. They would then stop these ungodly and superstition based harmful practices and the children would be safe from them.
By far the very best way to accomplish this important and literally life saving goal is through Deism. Deism lets them know the greatest God-given gift they have beside life itself is their innate reason. Once they realize this, the vast majority of them will apply their reason to their religion and will recognize the fact that while their innate reason is from The Supreme Intelligence/God, their religion runs contrary to their gift from God of reason and therefore their religion cannot possibly be from God. They will then enjoy the exercise of reason and the freedom from superstition it brings. This will not only make their individual lives much better and make their children much safer, it will also create a much better society as well. A society free of fear-based and harmful superstitions masquerading as the Word of God. Once enough people realize the “revealed”/hearsay religions are not from God, these harmful man-made religions will wither on the vine and die along with all their religious violence and fear. People will then be free to reach the limitless potential for happiness and good we have within us. What a great world this will be!
