The New York Times reported on Tuesday that Democrats have officially begun trying to capitalize on the Steve Scalise scandal. According to the article, the national press secretary for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, Joshua Schwerin, has released a statement condemning the Louisiana Republican as well House GOP leaders for not forcing Scalise to resign. Nancy Pelosi’s office, the Democratic National Committee, and other major Democratic voices have issued similar statements.
Democratic calls for his resignation are stemming from recent revelations by a liberal Louisiana blogger named Lamar White Jr. that Scalise spoke at an event more than a decade ago which turned out to be organized by former David Duke aide Kenneth Knight. More ties between Scalise and the white supremacist have since emerged.
Nothing in Scalise’s track record indicates racism, and even black Louisiana Congressman Cedric Richmond (D) insists that he doesn’t have “a racist bone in his body.” All indications are that this is a classic case of a politician failing to remain vigilant about the potentially controversial backgrounds of casual associations (i.e., poor judgment).
Democrats, who had nothing to say when it came out that their presidential candidate had marched down the street with the New Black Panther Party in 2007, or when he held meetings at the White House with the Muslim Brotherhood, are eager to exploit the controversy and use it to perpetuate their divisive racial politics. And conservatives are rightly using it to call for the removal of the entire leftist RINO leadership in the House (of which Scalise is a major part), which has openly declared war on the Tea Party and betrayed voters at every turn.
Incidentally, this is the same person who mentored under a racist lunatic for twenty years, befriended domestic terrorists, and started his career with the notorious voter fraud group ACORN. But the same liberals who refused to vet their own presidential candidate in 2008 and who cried “guilt-by-association” any time someone dared to notice his shockingly close ties to extremists are now indignantly offended that a congressman once knew someone on the fringe.
This ignores the fact that Democrats had a former Klansman third in line to be president for more than twenty years, until he died in 2010 (Senator Robert Byrd). And the many jaw-droppingly racist things Democrats are on the record saying, as with Harry Reid’s comments about “Negroes” in 2010. And all the Democrats who called blacks “violent,” “lazy,” and responsible for their own troubles in 2008. And the fact that Democrats have always hated blacks, until the moment they realized they could manipulate them for votes.
And never mind the left’s incredibly racist anti-white views and policies. Or that of Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Eric Holder, Sheila Jackson Lee, etc. Relentlessly inventing race hoaxes and instigating riots, looting, and the unprovoked murder of police officers is nothing compared to the real scandal of a GOP congressman doing a speech twelve years ago at an event organized by someone tied to David Duke.
