There’s nothing like a freshly baked cookie. And, at Denica’s Real Food Kitchen out in the East Bay you will definitely be satisfied if you are on the hunt for a really good cookie. Or two. And maybe even three.
The cookies look tempting from the pastry case. Large in size. Studded with chocolate chips. The best part is that there are always samples of cookies, cut up into bite sized chunks along the top of the pastry case, which is perfect for nibbling if you happen to be caught during a rush. You may even decide on which one is your favorite before you get to order you food. The cookies are soft with selections such as Winter White Chocolate with Cranberry to Oatmeal Chocolate Chip.
Denica’s first started as a small pastry shop in Dublin. It’s growth, with adding a taco lounge and later breakfast items, reflects the popularity of this small business. It is often quite busy, which sometimes does help if you need that extra time to decide what to order. Perhaps a Chorizo and Egg Burrito or the Pesto Florentine Omelette? The pastry case is packed full of goodies. Besides the cookies, there are cinnamon rolls bigger softballs and muffins that seem to be exploding out of itself. Also, if you are a real fan of desserts for breakfast, there are a few crepes on the menu such as the Heavenly Crepes: banana, nutella, whipped cream and toasted almonds.
Denica’s is also a very family-friendly environment from the owners’ family pictures on the wall to the train table full of all kinds of trains and cars. The restaurant is run by a couple who have a spirit for community and for connecting with people. The business has now expanded to two more locations, Walnut Creek and Livermore.
But, there are definitely not many places like Denica’s in the East Bay. So check out their food. Even if it is just for the cookies.
