During the early hours of of Feb. 19, designer Jeremy Scott hosted an epic fashion week after-party to celebrate his fall 2015 collection. The bash was held at Space Ibiza and featured sets by DJ Mazurbate, Mia Moretti and the Misshapes. Belvedere Vodka served fabulous cocktails and ASAP Rocky was in attendance. Earlier in the day, we attended Jeremy Scott’s presentation at Milk Studios as a guest of presenting sponsor American Express. As an Amex VIP, the group’s first stop was the very exclusive Card Member Lounge, where light bites and champagne were served. Guests were also able to get their hair touched up by Drybar.
Backstage, the models were being prepped for the show. Wella professional stylists were getting their hair just right. Miss Pop from OPI worked on the nails and MAC Cosmetics’ very own Kabuki was leading an army of make up artists. Gigi Hadid, who modeled in the show, was spotted backstage. Soon it was time for the show to begin. Notables in attendance included Kanye West, Shaun Ross, ASAP Ferg, Anthony Kiedis, Sofia Richie, Kelly Killoren Bensimon, Mickey Boardman, Mia Moretti, Chiara Ferragni and Ty Hunter, to name a few.
American Express returned to Made Fashion Week offering card members access to fall 2015 runway shows and backstage designer interviews conducted by celebrity blogger Micah Jesse. After the very fun presentation, Scott came to the Card Members Lounge for a Q&A. Scott has been designing professionally for 18 years and is one of the hottest designers in the game right now. Rihanna and Miley Cyrus frequently wear his looks.
When asked about his process Scott said, “If it’s something that needs a sketch I sketch it, if it’s something that there’s a reference image like Humpty Dumpty, I will try to find it … it’s a collage in a way trying to put it together … also with a silhouette … or pictures of dolls to capture the way the clothes hang on them or anything like that that that can help illustrate the story.”
Jeremy collaborated with renowned DJ Michel Gaubert on the music for the show. So what was on the playlist? “Lemonade” by Sophie, “Close To Me” by People Like Us and Kenny G, “BIPP” by Sophie, “Icy Lake” by Dat Oven, “Mr. Hand” by Jonny Trunk, “You Better Watch Out Boy” by The Accents, “Hard” by Sophie and “Jolene” by Dolly Parton. Scott said, “I’ve been working with … one of industry’s best show music maestros … so him and I have a shared common bond and knowledge and short hand, so he was actually in Los Angeles last week and was able to see a bit of the collection as it was coming together, I was able to explain to him the story.”
Scott loved the “Lemonade” track because he pictured a little girl who has a lemonade stand and she was singing a song about it. The collection this season is called “Dolly Pattern.” Scott said it was inspired by dolls and the Dolly Parton song “Coat of Many Colors.” He said, “this patchwork coat that she had was made of love by her mom … kids made fun of her at school because she was wearing something that wasn’t store bought.” Scott captured Dolly’s coat by infusing leather patchwork and silks into his collection.
When asked whose opinions he trusts most in regards to his designs, Scott shared, “Really my close friends honestly … I think they know me best, they know my work best, you know I think it’s important to talk about it, it’s like an exercise in a way … get it out and see what comes and what sticks.” This season he said, “I really just wanted to take things I felt that were diverse … not as diverse as last season because I definitely played more into a nursery inspired kind of thing with wooden blocks for the invitation to all these nursery characters, the prints and even sweet little lambs and little bears.” So does Scott wear other designers? He said, “I’m pretty basic, I wear the old vintage clothes I have and things I designed, I am not a big shopper.”
