With genderless fashion being a huge focus in fashion these days with so many brands creating androgynous fashion we caught up with The Tomboy Founder and Owner, Rachel Grossinger who utilize gained knowledge for strategic business while providing creative tomboy gear making a name in the growing world of androgynous fashion.
Getthebuzz716: Tell us about your company?
Tomboy shop: The Tomboy Shop was created to fulfill a need in the fashion world, and to also serve as a community for like-minded individuals who identify as Tomboys.
Getthebuzz716:What are some of the trends among same sex wedding looks?
The Tomboy shop: I think it depends on the wedding. It also depends on the nature of the relationship. For instance, I’ve seen couples where both women wear the stereotypical “girly” white wedding dress. There is no dominant “butch” or “femme” so to speak in that case. Then there are those that go for the comfort or casual look – i.e. linen pants – depending on the location of the event (beach, for instance) which always works well.
Bow ties and suspenders, mixed with a tie and khaki’s is pretty popular, ladies in tuxedoes, unique accessories, etc. It all really depends but it’s exciting to see the variety and individuality expressed through the different styles.
Getthebuzz716: What are some of the top concern for some of your customers?
The Tomboy shop: I think there are misconceptions out there. Tomboys are straight, gay, bi, trans, etc. so it’s a wide scope of people out there that identify, but some are hesitant to identify as such because they think it boxes them into a particular sexual preference, which is not the case.
Getthebuzz716 : Do you feel this demographics is ignore or untapped
The Tomboy shop: I don’t think it’s ignored so much as hidden within a larger space. You can find “Tomboy” style clothes at Urban Outfitters or Brooklyn Industries, but you have to search amidst all of the other varieties of clothing styles they carry. We consider ourselves a niche one-stop-shop, which cuts through and saves our customers the time and energy of having to search for the styles that reflect them.
Getthebuzz716: What are some of your goals as a brand?
The Tomboy shop: We spent the last year or so working with independent designers feeling out the space, getting to know what our customers like and want. We’ve even done a handful of in-person events where we’ve had the opportunity to speak one-on-one, finding out what Tomboys are looking for. So, you could say, we’ve spent a fair share of time just learning more specifically, right now, we’re working on some re-branding elements like the website and the logo. We’re also evolving our product lines to offer new styles and more options.
