A friend mentioned that she was looking for a fitness tracker that could be worn while swimming. Although many of the devices are water resistant in the shower, trackers that can survive in the pool are few and far between. After an extensive search, I came across the DigiCare ERI Fitness Tracker which is waterproof down to 1 meter and includes features that are usually reserved for trackers that are many times more expensive.
- DigiCare ERI Fitness Tracker
- Micro USB charging cable
- Charging base
- Printed Instructions
The DigiCare ERI tracker comes in a sturdy plastic display box, with a manual, charging base, and Micro USB charging cable. The box is suitable for giving as a gift to someone special.
Setting up the DigiCare ERI Tracker is easy but first you need to download and install the DigiCare App from the App Store or Google Play. The easiest way to find it is to use the barcode scanner on your phone to scan one of the codes on the back of the box. You can also do a search for Digicaremobile which will find the app on Google Play.
Once the app is installed, the tracker will pair directly with the DigiCare App using the Bluetooth on your phone. Using the app, you can adjust the way the time is displayed and other features. The time will be displayed as it is on your phone so if you have 24 hour format on your phone, that’s how it will appear on the tracker. The date format will appear as 2015/4/22 which is the international format for all users and it cannot be changed. If you have any concerns about Technical Support, I sent an email to DigiCare to inquire about this time setting. I received a response in just a couple of hours even though it was on a Sunday afternoon. That’s impressive!
Fully charge your DigiCare ERI Tracker before use. Connect the charging base into the back of the tracker and then connect the Micro USB cable to the port on the base. Plug the other end of the cable into your computer or another USB charging source. Once fully charged, the battery in the tracker should last about 10 days.
The LCD on the tracker will display your skin temperature in Celsius or Fahrenheit, A battery gauge, the current time in either 12 or 24 hour format, as well as the date and day of the week. With each press of the 4 raised dots beside the display it will show the Steps taken, Calories burned, Distance traveled, and active minutes. When set to Sleep Mode, the display will show the number of hours you’ve slept and the details on the quality of your sleep will be uploaded to the app when you sync with your phone.
The DigiCare ERI uses the technology in the rear camera of your phone to monitor your heart rate. This feature is activated from the app and requires permission to use the camera. The light will come on in the camera and you will be directed to place your finger over the rear camera. An image on the screen will show you what to do. After a few seconds, your heart rate will appear on the screen. There are no clumsy wires or bands to place around your chest as with other trackers.
The DigiCare App stores your activity data, your goals and achievements for each day and stores 7 days of recent activities and up to 30 days of daily activity summaries. You set your goals and track your own progress with the data stored in the app. Share with your friends on social media with the links provided.
One of my pet peeves with fitness trackers is that telling the time usually requires pressing a button on the tracker to light the screen so you can see the time. Telling the time should not be a two handed operation. The DigiCare ERI includes the option to have the screen light automatically when you turn your wrist to look at the time. You may also adjust the length of time that the backlight stays on when you want to view the screen. That’s a huge improvement over other trackers I’ve used.
With the tools included in the app, you can not only track your sleep each night, but you can set the smart alarm to wake you in the morning and in the afternoon you can take a power nap and have the tracker buzz to wake you in 30 minutes.
One of my favorite features is the Idle Alert which will vibrate when you have been inactive for a period of time that you determine. I set it to 45 minutes. You also will set the window of time that you want to receive these Idle Alerts so they aren’t going off when you’re done your activities for the day. There is also an Activity Alert Option that will alert you when you have reached a preset number of steps and a length of time you were active. You determine these settings in the app along with the goal of the total number of steps you hope to achieve each day. You will be rewarded for your success by the vibration of the tracker with each new milestone you reach and a trophy will appear on the screen in celebration.
A simple Stop Watch function is also included in the app. Just select that feature from the list and click the start button to start the counter. Click the button again to stop to timer. Very Easy.
Phone and Message Alerts
The last two options offer alerts for SMS notifications and phone call notifications. With either of these enabled, the tracker will vibrate and display a message to alert you of the incoming message or phone call which is a nice feature for those of you that can’t live without your phones
The DigiCare ERI Fitness Tracker is rates as IP67 Waterproof which means the device has been tested to withstand “Water projected in powerful jets (12.5 mm nozzle) against the enclosure from any direction shall have no harmful effects.” As well as “Ingress of water in harmful quantity shall not be possible when the enclosure is immersed in water under defined conditions of pressure and time (up to 1 m of submersion).” So there’s no need to remove the tracker before jumping in the pool for a swim but you wouldn’t want to dive below 1 meter.
When you walk, run, swim, cycle, or sleep. the DigiCare ERI is specially designed to recognize the movements of each and record the duration of the activity in the app. It is also smart enough to filter out the smaller movements that don’t qualify as fitness related activity such as typing or reaching for a cup of coffee.
The band is soft Silica Gel with what appears to be a strong plastic closure that adjusts the size of the band on your wrist. The tracker is available in one size that will probably fit all but the very largest of wrists. My wrist is about 7.4″ and when worn loosely, I can slip 3 or 4 fingers between the band and my wrist. That leaves plenty of strap to fit a wrist larger than my own as well as smaller ones.
The DigiCare ERI Tracker is soft, comfortable on the wrist and accurate. The Idle Alert has been a huge benefit to me and is responsible for a five pound weight loss in two weeks. That’s a great start. The tracker is available in a variety of colors to match your fitness gear or everyday clothing. It’s available from GeekBuying online in Black, White, Rose Red (Fuchsia), Blue (Aqua), and Green for the amazing price of only $49.99.
