On Thanksgiving Eve, my family and I had the opportunity to attend Disney On Ice presents Frozen at the IZOD Center in Rutherford, NJ. It just so happened that it was the first snowstorm for the area too but that did not keep the crowd away. It was actually quite fitting to see a show like this on such a night. Not only was it was snowing on the outside but on the inside as well!
The #1 animated movie of all time came to life with the production of Disney On Ice presents Frozen presented by Feld Entertainment. This show marked the first time the story was told live and it captured the dynamic between two royal sisters, Anna and Elsa beautifully. For those that are not familiar with the story (not sure that’s possible but just in case..lol) here is a quick who’s who of the main characters. Anna, a girl with an extraordinary heart, embarks on an epic journey to find her sister, the magical Elsa, who is determined to remain secluded as she finally feels free to test the limits of her powers. Rugged mountain man Kristoff, his loyal reindeer Sven, the lovable and hilarious snowman Olaf and the mystical trolls help Anna along the way in this story about love conquering fear.
In Disney On Ice presents Frozen, the show starts with an appearance by Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse who take the audience through the magical story based in Arendelle, with special appearances by beloved Disney princesses and favorite characters from Disney∙Pixar’s Toy Story and Finding Nemo and Disney’s The Lion King, who come together to prove that true love is the greatest power of all.
As soon as the other Disney characters left the ice the story of Frozen began. The show was so well done. The skaters did such an amazing job of bringing the characters to life. I loved how they did Sven and Olaf- best characters ever! I also liked how they used an inflatable to bring the snow monster from the movie to life. The set design was awesome too! It really drew you in; made you feel like you were trekking up the mountains with Anna, Kristoff and Sven. You’ll also experience the storm inside Elsa through enhanced state-of-the art special effects while her emotions were conveyed through powerful skating. I also have to mention the costumes (108 costumes in total!). They were really well designed. The colors popped under the lights. Here’s a unique costume fact about Elsa’s Ice Queen Dress, it is all hand painted silk chiffon by Parsons-Meares, a world class costume shop in NYC. Elsa also has her own unique Snowflake pattern on her Ice Queen Dress.
Probably the most fun part about the show for my family and me was the show’s music! The crowd went wild when it was time for “Let it Go.” It was so heartwarming to see little kids and adults alike sing along to this song. In addition to “Let it Go,” some of the other popular sing along songs were “In Summer,” “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?” and “Fixer Upper.” All in all it was an amazing time and wonderful show. It was nice to see so many families enjoying their time together singing and being entertained by a beautiful show. When Disney on Ice presents Frozen comes to your town, I highly recommend seeing it with your family. They will love it! Click this link for the tour schedule and ticket information.
