The beautiful weather that has FINALLY arrived makes me excited for spring! Gardening, flowers and anything outdoors…so I need to whip up some cute aprons to help me carry my tools around our yard. Not only are these great for gardening but upcoming BBQ season, crafting, painting and just all-around creative endeavors! Most of the styles have NO buttons or clasps, making them easy to put on and take off. A few have suggestions for re-purposing existing garments, which is a great green suggestion with Earth day coming up in April this year! Almost every suggestion makes a great gift, so start on the one you like the best!
This half-length, linen version by Stitches Crafts Blogspot is a perfect one! Clean lines, easy to use and wear…this makes a great gift for the gardener in your life as well! I especially like the wrap-around tie belt to secure it. Makes taking on and off with messy hands a breeze!
A super DIY by Gabriels Good Tidings shows step by step how to turn a men’s shirt into an apron (wouldn’t a denim shirt be awesome too!) I would also start with a shirt that was about a size or 2 larger than I would normally wear…but make it as fitted as you like! This is such a fun way to use those older shirts with maybe a name embroidered on it from work…for a BBQ apron for him as well! You know Father’s Day is only a few months away!
Cross back aprons and pinafores are so popular right now! This tutorial from Japanese Sewing Books shows a soft round edge version but you can straighten up the cut for a modern look. I love the child and adult versions in this tutorial! Plus you can put it on and off with such ease! No ties! Plus you can adjust the length to protect your clothes a bit more..it’s just darling! This design is so popular and you can place ruffles, pockets and so much more, on it!
Just Another Day In Paradise’s “ah-ha” moment produced the cutest T shirt Smocks! These are so cute not only for kids but adults and a great way to re-purpose those old t shirts into a fun apron. Using the solid colors as pockets is a great idea. Don’t forget to make them extra deep (or vertical) for baking and holding spoons, etc.
Some of the prettiest dishtowels are on the market now and Fyne Design gives you a perfect idea to make a 10 minute apron with your favorite design! Adding a few embellishments only takes the personalization to the next level. What a cute hostess gift this would make with matching hand towels and a few bamboo spoons! There are canvas and linen printed varieties with pictures and words. Mix up a couple of designs to make it unique! Cute way to make a matching parent and child set, since most towels are a perfect child length.
