Chicagoland is experiencing ‘draft fever!’ The NFL draft is only one of the big drafts to hit Chicago today. The most adorable action took place today at PAWS (Pets Are Worth Saving) Chicago and not the Auditorium Theater. PAWS Chicago featured Animal Planet’s first ever Road to Puppy Bowl Draft in conjunction with the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA) appearance today.
The Draft Day Adoption Event began at 3:00 p.m. Current and former NFL Players teamed up to evaluate all the prospective puppy and kitty players. They were there to help attendees make their #1 Draft Pick from the lineup of adoptable animals at PAWS Chicago’s Lincoln Park Adoption Center. Then they were able to take home their important pick to join their home team!
This Road to Puppy Bowl Draft was the first ever of its kind to hit Illinois. Lucky four-legged players were able to hear their names called out; to get added to the big board. Then, they were able to find their new home teams.
This event is all in thanks to the partnership between Animal Planet and the ASPCA. They covered all draft adoption fees for designated MVPs (Fees were waived thanks to grant funding from Animal Planet administered by the ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). Waived adoption fees are on a first-come, first-served basis April 29-May 3 on designated MVP pets. Free giveaways while supplies last.).
Together the duo sent families that drafted MVPs home with an exclusive bag of Puppy Bowl swag. Besides partnering for the draft event, Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl referee was on hand to pose for photos with families’ and their draftee for the Animal Planet Instagram account. The ref was also present to introduce attendees to all the eligible free agents that were available.
Discovery Communications created Animal Planet, their multi-media business unit whose focus is to engross viewers into the full range of life in the animal kingdom. Getting involved in this event is just a more personal aspect of immersive, engaging, wholesome enrichment for families and pets alike. This great event that began today and will go through Sunday, May 3rd, is yet one more example of how many are willing to help the national model in No Kill animal sheltering, PAWS Chicago. By conducting adoption events, they are helping to take even more homeless pets off the Chicago streets.
