So just how does someone steal an entire house and better yet, how do you find a stolen home? You can ask the cops in Oregon after a house reported as stolen has now been found.
According to KTVZ.com on Feb. 26, an Oregon sheriff reports the mystery of the stolen house has been solved, but there are other mysteries surrounding this log cabin that are still baffling authorities today. Authorities are in the process of investigating just who legally owns this house.
It was originally reported that Klamath County Sheriff Frank Skrah told reporters that the house was found about 10-15 miles away from its original location, reports The Washington Post. But the house was only about a half a mile away from it’s original mooring and the story gets even more confusing for the police today.
According to News Max on Feb. 27, the story started with a phone call to the sheriff’s office, but it was a phone call like they’ve never heard before. It is not often someone calls to report an entire house stolen.
A homeowner called the Klamath County Sheriff’s office on Tuesday to say that someone made off with a complete 1,200 square-foot house and there’s not a trace of it left. Skrah told reporters that “We had a complete home stolen. This isn’t a motor home, this isn’t a mobile home and this is a home.”
When the owner went to visit his second home it was gone. It somehow came off the foundation and left the area between the time he last saw it, which was a few months ago and this week when he stopped by the home, or where the home used to be.
This wasn’t a house that could easily be moved, it wasn’t on wheels. No one was living in the house at the time it went missing. So how did this happen?
The Sheriff said, “We’ve found the house. We’ve identified potential suspects,” Skrah. “We think that somebody busted out the foundation, jacked it up, put a lowboy, (which is a trailer) underneath it and lowered it down on the lowboy and took it.”
“I’ll tell you, we were sitting around…myself with 40 years of experience … but we have never heard of anything like this,” he added. “It’s crazy. Who steals an entire house?”
The Chiloquin, Oregon house is valued at $3,000 and it is the object of a dispute over who legally owns the home, according to News Max. Three people claim to be the rightful owner and one of them sold the house to a fourth party. That fourth party is most likely the person who carted it off across a field to its new home, which is just a half a mile away, but police are still looking into this.
When the picture of the house appeared on the news, neighbors knew right were the house was and called the police. From the latest reports it seems as if this house has been parked in its new location for quite some time! The authorities located the missing home after receiving phone calls from people who live in the area.
The Sheriff wouldn’t discuss the specifics of the stolen house because it’s an on-going investigation. But he did originally say that his department is “closing in on the suspects.”
Today the police have the task of finding out which of the parties is the rightful owner before they can decide if the house was stolen or legally moved. This story has offered many twists and turns so far!
