In late 2014, Louisiana Rep. Steve Scalise made national headlines when it was revealed that he had made an appearance at a conference hosted by the former Klu Klux Klan leader David Duke. The conference had been held back in 2002.
Scalise issued an apology about the incident, and has tried to distance himself from the incident. Several high-ranking members of the Republican party have come forward to defend Scalise and his character. Scalise currently serves as Majority Whip of the United States House of Representatives.
Now, Duke has announced that he is considering running against Scalise in the future because he believes that Scalise has betrayed his constituents.
Once the Grand Wizard of the KKK, Duke is also a journalist and conspiracy theorist who has called himself a “racial realist.” He has also served time in prison, for filing a false tax return. Duke has also entered into political races in the past, including running for Governor of Louisiana in 1991.
