On the eve of the highly controversial attempt by Barack Obama and the Democrats to seize the Internet, FCC Chair Tom Wheeler flat-out refused to appear before Congress for questioning. Wheeler has also refused to provide information to Congress about the government takeover, demanding that Congress approve the proposal for the federal government to seize the Internet — deceptively called “Internet neutrality” — without knowing a thing about what they are approving.
The arrogance and stonewalling that is on full display regarding the Internet has become all too familiar in the manner in which the Obama administration deals with Congress. Attorney General Eric Holder was held in contempt of Congress for failing to obey a direct order by the government oversight committee to turn over information that would help Congress in its investigation of the Fast and Furious scheme that got at least two federal agents killed. Further, IRS official Lois Lerner refused to provide factual information on the scheme to use the power of her agency to go after the Tea Party, conservative Christian groups, pro-Israel groups, and a host of other opponents of the Obama administration. This she did by flat out lying to Congress. Her boss, IRS Commissioner John Koskinen, has done the same thing in testimony he provided to Congress. And then, Hillary Clinton did her own dance of deception in her bogus testimony before Congress on the Benghazi scandal.
Wheeler’s refusal to appear before Congress represents nothing less than avoidance — to avoid answering any question about the FCC’s plans to take the Internet out of the hands of the people and placing it under government control. Such a move would slow Internet access due to the fact that companies would be barred from charging extra fees for extra fast Internet access. But that is the least of the problems associated with the move.
Supporters of so called net neutrality have a hidden agenda they wish to implement. Under the new rules the FCC would have the power to intrude upon and regulate free speech and freedom of the press. Collectivists have long decried the power of the people when the Internet is used to jettison their dependence on government-approved “news,” such as that which is provided by CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN, and MSNBC. Government elitists fear the truth in the hands of the people, and the Internet has allowed the people to do their own independent research and news gathering. Hillary Clinton, for example, has complained about having “too many news sources.” She further stated that the “net neutrality” regulations would give collectivists a “foot in the door” in the gradual move to totally control the Internet. Hillary once stated in 1998 that Internet news “needs a rethink.”
Why? Because it keeps liberty oriented citizens away from network news that has always been in the hip pocket of collectivists Democrats. One would think this would actually be a good thing, unless of course one is part of the collectivist Bolsheviks of today who have reverted back to a mindset reminiscent of the Stalinist Soviet Union which held that the news apparatus exists to promote, bolster, strengthen, and provide cover for the totalitarian government machine.
This issue, thus, is so vitally important that Wheeler must be forced to answer questions before Congress before there is any vote on an Internet takeover by the government. If he persists in refusing to appear, hold him in contempt. If he refuses to appear after that, use any parliamentary and/or procedural tactic to prevent the FCC from doing anything at all. In other words, keep it tied up in lawsuits, red tape, and everything else in order to render it powerless. The agency has outlived its usefulness to begin with.
