A mystery FedEx driver steals puppies right in a family’s backyard, but is in fact caught in the act thanks to surveillance video capturing the entire crime on camera. As witnessed in the above video, two French bulldogs were apparently lured by a man close to the large truck before being abducted. AJC News reports this Friday, Jan. 9, 2015, that the Houston family — who owned the young dogs — were absolutely shocked by alleged thief’s display, saying they trust these workers who instead are “taking our dogs.”
Police are on the case, but what would possess a FedEx driver to risk his job — and his freedom — by trying to steal someone else’s puppies? A family from Texas is grateful to have their two pet bulldogs back home safe and sound after a man in a truck nearly succeeded in dognapping them. The motive remains currently unknown, though fortunately the animals seemed to have escaped the ordeal unharmed.
One of the main reasons this alleged canine thief was caught was thanks to the family having surveillance video right on their property, adds ABC News this week. After being unable to find their puppies on Wednesday afternoon after coming home, the owners opted to glimpse through camera footage earlier that day to see if they could find any evidence of what happened to the lost dogs.
As it turns out, these pets were not lost at all, but forcibly taken. What was the goal of this mystery puppy thief? As seen in the purported “FedEx driver steals puppies” video, a delivery driver seems to be luring the two animals towards his truck. Although one puppy was successfully taken, the other managed to run away back to the front porch. Creepily and unlawfully, the man walks right up to the door and grabs the dog before returning to the vehicle.
“We are supposed to trust these people to deliver packages and they are stealing our dogs,” one of the owners told a news station. The dogs were thankfully found not long afterwards, but how they made it to their whereabouts are unknown. A stranger managed to recover the puppies in a distant neighborhood, a full 30 miles away from home and their familiar surroundings. The family has since been happily reunited with their stolen pets. The stranger decided to bring the dogs to a local clinic to see if they were in need of help or medical assistance. Once there, the lost bulldogs were recognized from a local emergency broadcast and returned to their owners.
Police are already on the case. It currently remains a mystery how and why the dogs were released. Some police are thinking the FedEx driver that allegedly lured and stole the puppies might not have intentionally let them go, and that they somehow managed to escape. An investigation by both police authorities in the area and FedEx officials is ongoing.
“We are taking this incident very seriously and continues to work closely with authorities investigating this matter,” said a press release from the item and package delivery and pick-up company. “Pending the completion of this investigation, the driver will not be providing service on behalf of FedEx ground.”
