Senator entertainment & culture machine and music by a few song artists, and both scores gifted by an album of the soundtrack to an emotional story which stars Julia Roberts in a way that both makes you tear up and celebrate a state of pure joy one moment, and give tears enough for a tableau table rock lake the next, make this film a perfect family style film. According to the description of the film, it was released in the US in 2011 with a new score by Jane Antonia Cornish, although Javier Navarrete composed the score for the European release of 2008 Berlin International Film Festival release of Fireflies In The Garden. “Your book is brilliant. Once your tenure is up…” Despite the old wrought iron sign, the entrance to the family ranch of Larkspur, no welcome, seems evident. Until he decided to change right at about the time his son Michael (Ryan Reynolds) turned nineteen, either Mr. Taylor is functional really, or three children now grown up relive through thoughts and speech memories of child abuse while growing up, and the torment of living under the unkind thumb of an abusive professor father. And while people like to call it other things such as just life or training or for your own good, everybody knows this as an untruth. It is just like the weight lifting which breaks and damages even if it later builds, for sometimes, the damage destroys, as forever. It takes a few good ones to the land of no return, and never the same again, especially the young ones who still express love toward everyone they meet, learned to accept cruelty as a way of life and newness and goodness as something to fear. Used to the abuser whose laugh wickedly seemed stronger than the battle against the wrong they did, to kill the spirit of the weaker, kinder ones whose brokenness taught them only to live. As the brainwashed victim, a little lamb, of course, such adult shepards of cowered sheep lied. And as they never even intended to watch over the sheep, some of these adults who said they were your or somebody else’s parents, just waited in watch and then they embezzled more evil and tried to run. A film which begins a series of family mysteries more secret than sin, a family on the family owned vacation lake, at least the humble brother and sister here know how to talk and have real conversations. Open, unmasked and you see who they are. His aunt, only a few years older than him, and the young sister of a well-behaved wife (Julia Roberts) of a tenured college professor (William Defoe), always angry about something, though taught him everything she knows, that and how to write !ike a woman.. A serious family incident, during which the professor at first appears more interested in the next great success for himself after a funeral, that and nothing else alone, the film then begins to lead you back to flash past camera short stories about the family. In short, it takes some time to figure who is doing what, and how the history of one family really unfolded. “I’m sorry, Jane.” “Sorry isn’t going to get this stain out.” The clear motif of a film about a dysfunctional family doing their all to pretend normal, Julia Roberts (Lisa Defoe) stars as the mother of a family whose truly sweet love portrayed as wrapped around everybody, “You should always wear gloves, always.” “But they never fit me…how can you be sorry when you have no idea what you are apologizing for,” her now grown younger sister who she helped to raise says of her now. They were never really stars at heart – only of course, they can’ t sustain the part. And as far as childhood made movies go, it is almost as if the same son was perhaps also heinously murdered by those who stood by and watched and said nothing during the hours of tormented mental & physical abuse he grew up under. The older brother as motif of his inner child, who as a now grown man, the young innocent boy known as Michael died long ago. The one who never harmed a soul, he holds the Talbot shoe box, and pours through belongings his mother left behind. And unlike family members separated by the evil of a war they did not start, and now as a sandbag traps those elements, caught inside of the thing, anger coming from both sides – The wife who he cheated on one time, always forced to apologize for everything he said or did as if she did it. The film brings out the truth about the reality of the trap of dysfunctional families. Fortunately, the young man here grows up to be truly humble and kind, does not feed the sad, sick desires to take cruel revenge out on innocent people just to make himself feel better. Therapy early on of the right kind could had helped the family more though. But back then, most people let alone families did not really know how to access or make therapy available for themselves. A more, mood mild toned down abusive family situation, some abused women know such fire ongoing ten years or more plus unchanging. Some more gentle-hearted abused children who get broken, never get over the memories. Sometimes the tire swing does not twirl the right way for years, even as portrayed by a film here where an aunt, not really an aunt, finally chose to grow up and become a parent.
I’d like to make myself believe
That planet Earth turns slowly
It’s hard to say that I’d rather stay awake when I’m asleep
‘Cause everything is never as it seems
‘Cause I’d get a thousand hugs
From ten thousand lightning bugs
Fireflies (Owl City)
