A Florida couple who woke up inside of a dumpster got the shock of their life when their world was turned upside down – literally – as they were being dumped out of their garbage bin bungalow into the yawning hole atop a refuse truck. The couple was trashed – in every sense of the word – from an evening of heavy drinking, and they decided to climb up into what evidently was a very cozy (albeit fetid) compartment calling their name.
Writes The Associated Press on Feb. 11, via CBS News: “Hillsborough County Sheriff’s officials say the couple had been sleeping in a dumpster outside a convenience store near Tampa early Wednesday. When the dumpster was emptied into the back of the garbage truck, they started screaming and banging on the sides of the truck.”
Identified as our trash mouth trespassers were Kissimmee residents 37-year-old Donald L. Jordan and 49-year-old Lisa Spirella, who spent the evening Tuesday night getting sloshed at a nearby casino. At 5 a.m. Wednesday morning, the driver of the truck made a frantic 911 as his passengers were undoubtedly experiencing a very Death Star-like trash compactor fright.
The driver from Progressive Waste Solutions, Radames Velazquez, called call to 911 after he realized there were more than pizza boxes and orange peels getting hauled in the back of his truck. You can listen to his hilarious 911 call here.
“I got two people… stuck in the truck,” the driver says. “I almost killed both of them.” At a news conference, Velazquez later said: “If I was fully loaded, I probably would have crushed them today.”
Jordan and Sirbella were partying at Florida’s Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, then tried to sleep off their massive hangover and woke up screaming inside of the compactor. The mucked up couple were taken to Tampa General Hospital complaining of “back pains.”
“It was originally believed that they were homeless,” said the sheriff’s office in a statement, “but it seems they were just really intoxicated after hanging out at the casino.”
Our upstanding couple are no strangers to the legal dregs. Writes the Tampa Bay Times: “Jordan has been arrested 43 times since 1999 for charges relating to drugs, public drinking, disturbing the peace, burglary, battery and trespassing, according to state law enforcement records. He has served time in both Osceola County jail and state prison. Sirabella has been arrested 22 times since 2000, records show. She has been convicted of battery, disorderly conduct and driving under the influence. She has served short sentences in jail.”
Sounds like they both belonged inside of that dumpster.
