The four most powerful words in the daily life of a Christian are
THINK ON THESE THINGS
Whatsoever things are true,
Whatsoever things are honorable,
Whatsoever things are just,
Whatsoever things are pure,
Whatsoever things are lovely,
Whatsoever things are of good report;
If there be any virtue,
And if there be any praise,
Think on these things.
The thought-life of a human being is like unto a powerhouse of electrical impulses. It’s like a computer that cannot be turned off..ever! The human brain is pummeled daily with input of words and images and sounds everywhere. The mind of man has actually been pummeled his whole life and has an overload of ungodly debris. Science says that the human mind actually records all of this input. The Bible says,
As a man thinks in his heart so is he.. Proverbs 23:7
All of this input, if left unattended, becomes attitudes or beliefs that are fertile ground for becoming actions. It is the actual substance of his heart. They are the seed that actually becomes who that person is in his heart. The influence unto actions in the life of a person is unmistakable. The danger of this truth is that even if a person does not commit all the actions unto sin that he has allowed himself to be infiltrated with, it is still who he is in his heart. It lies there like a badge of identification. THAT must be changed to enter into the Kingdom of God.
No salvation without change. No change without the Word of God and its power from Christ.
No one can do this change on his or her own. No one can know what to change without the Word of God. The Word of God is the part of Jesus Christ that God revealed to the world to get this change done. Without this change you will be left at the door with the Bridegroom saying,
“.. away from me, you evil doers, I never knew you!” (Matthew 7:23)
22 You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires;
23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds;
24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.
What a treasure chest of do’s and don’ts that the Lord has given to guide believers. He is not requiring that this change be done all at once. Yes, Jesus creates a new person within the heart when a man is born again. BUT, This is only the beginning of a journey. This action only makes it possible for the changes to be made. The soul-man needs to undergo renovation to match the new creation God made him to be. The mind, the will and the emotions need to be submitted to Christ’s Word. The Christian must do the task of always continuing to seek the Lord over rooting out the sin or old way of thinking that is within his heart. He must allow the Lord to show him what to change by submitting to the Word that brings the knowledge of sinful thoughts, words, attitudes or actions to his attention. All of this denotes a relationship with Christ as He personally shows you in His Word through a face-to-face daily encounter with Him.
How can a man weed the garden of his own sinful thoughts, words, and attitudes?
Sinful thoughts are to be dealt with ONE THOUGHT AT A TIME! A man’s heart is chuck-full of sinful thoughts and they must not be allowed to sit still waiting to produce their fruit. Much like a weed in a garden, it will continue to grow and eventually choke out any chance of the fruit of God’s Word to come forth. That Word from the Lord must take the place of every sinful thought and it is up to the believer to act on those thoughts. It is God’s power that makes the change. The believer has to walk in it. He must take the sword of the Spirit and put sinful thoughts to death. How? When a sinful thought comes forth the believer needs to take that thought captive to obey Christ (2 Corinthians 10:4-5) and thus casting it down. We are to be influenced by the Spirit to desire the things of God.
All that said, the source of the input must change as well!
Guard Your Heart: Proverbs 4:20-27
20 My son, pay attention to what I say;
listen closely to my words.
21 Do not let them out of your sight,
keep them within your heart;
22 for they are life to those who find them,
and health to a man’s whole body.
23 Above all else, guard your heart
for it is a wellspring of life.
24 Put away perversity from your mouth;
keep corrupt talk from your lips.
25 Let your eyes look straight ahead,
fix your gaze directly before you.
26 Ponder the path of your feet,
and let all your ways be kept firm.
27 Do not swerve to the right or the left;
keep your foot from evil.
IT IS ABSOLUTELY IMPOSSIBLE FOR ANY CHRISTIAN WHO SPENDS EVENING AFTER EVENING DAY AFTER DAY WATCHING THE MAJOR NETWORKS OR VIDEOS ON TV TO HAVE A CHRISTIAN MIND
Choose external sources carefully
TV, videos, movie, music, magazines, books and radio fare must be controlled if one is to have the mind of Christ. Even the newspapers are not as necessary as taking in the Word of God to you each day.
18 Therefore, take these words of mine into your heart and soul. Bind them on your arm as a sign, and let them be as a pendant on your forehead.
19 Teach them to your children, speaking of them when you are at home and when you are away, when you lie down and when you get up,
20 and write them on the doorposts of your houses and on your gates,
21 so that, as long as the heavens are above the earth, you and your children may live on in the land which the LORD swore to your ancestors he would give them.
This article covers the commands of the Lord to eradicate sin from our thoughts, words and actions. He tells us to be diligent in this to keep what we claim to have in Him. It’s actually simple but hard. It is simple to understand that this amounts to a relationship with the creator of the Universe. It’s hard because this process requires a discipline that the flesh clearly does not want. How amazing it really is for us that the Almighty Creator wants an up close and personal friendship with us? But there is actually more power in the words: THINK ON THESE THINGS !
More to come..
