A frozen plan pushed by passengers is proving how truly daring people can be when the situation calls for it. A team of passengers managed to “push” a stalled plane in the freezing cold of Siberia for a short time, uniting together to complete this daunting task. CNN News reports this Thursday, November 27, 2014, that the men and women came together after an issue with the landing gear left them temporarily stranded.
When a frozen plane obstructs your path, what can passengers do? Push the aircraft, of course! A group of daring passengers decided to leave their seats this week and push a large plane that was trapped in snow at a Siberian airport. Such an incident occurred at national Igarka Airport. The estimated temperature was estimated at 50 Celsius, so talk about these men and women deciding to brave the freezing cold.
According to the press release, a significant number of passengers stood up for the rescue after the extreme temperatures. Apparently, the oil within the landing gear of this plane began to ice up, says UTair prior to flight. It was difficult to get the plane into position alone, so the people aboard the aircraft opted to get out and help remedy it themselves.
Two complete rows of passengers were said to join together and with a collective shout of “Let’s go!” the frozen plane passengers left the aircraft, stood behind a large wing, and started to push their grounded flight into the correct alignment. Despite the freezing cold, these men and women were well prepared, having brought gloves, hats, and warm coats.
“We all want to get home,” one of the daring volunteers was reported to have said. Within hours, local media sources had arrived on the scene at the airport in Siberia and were sharing the news of these brave passengers with the rest of the world. BBC News notes that there was a resounding cry of support from social media fans online when they learned that the plane goers eventually succeeded in shifting the plane into a proper position.
Despite all of positive hubbub surrounding the aircraft push, some law enforcement officials and aircraft authorities in Russia are looking into the legal aspects of the passengers suddenly leaving the frozen plan and taking matters of the flight into their own hands. It seems the major problem was the shockingly cold temperatures and the landing gear oil going icy as a result.
“The problems at departure were caused by weather conditions, in particular, extremely low air temperature which is typical for this part of Krasnoyarsk region and sometimes gets as low as minus 50 Celsius,” an UTair spokesperson confirmed. “While the aircraft was parked at Igarka airport, its landing gear froze on to the aerodrome surface. In order to quickly resolve this issue the passengers assisted the tow truck to move the aircraft.”
If this frozen plane passengers story is a little too daunting for some readers, there is another trending plane story moving people’s hearts this week. A Dutch airlines service opted to include personal messages from loved ones and post these letters on their seats. When they boarded the large aircraft, everyone saw the kind posts waiting for them from family and friends, quite literally bringing many of its passengers to tears aboard the flight.
