DICE has employed a number of excellent developers over the years and many have gone on to do fabulous things outside of the studio. Continuing this are several former DICE lead developers, who have formed a new studio called Fugitive Games.
In addition to the announcement of this new studio being formed, Fugitive Games revealed their first game, Into the Stars. While a good bit of development has already taken place on the game, Fugitive has decided to take the game to Kickstarter in an effort to raise additional funds for finishing the game. The campaign has started and is seeking $85,000 in pledges.
Into the Stars is an open-world, single-player survival simulation that is going to be available on PC and MAC. There was no mention of the title coming to consoles, but they did say the game will be powered by Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 4. The game will place players in the role of Captain as they journey through the unknown world of space to find a “new home for humanity.”
Choice is one of the biggest things the development team wants to provide to players. Being able to make a game the way they wanted to was a major reason for the creation of this new studio and project. Ben Jones, who is the co-founder of Fugitive Games, spoke a little bit about the game.
“You’re in complete control from the very beginning by selecting your modules and your crew, and then taking them on this fantastic voyage through a new solar system. You’re in full control of a massive ship and every decision you make has a potential impact on your journey through this beautiful and vivid 3D space.
“We knew that music would be key to creating a cinematic experience filled with wonder and danger. That is why we’ve brought in Jack Wall to create an original score for Into the Stars. Our biggest inspiration was the Oregon Trail and more recently games like FTL and Out There that are all about the journey,” Jones said.
Jack Wall is the man who composed the Mass Effect series’ soundtrack. Into the Stars’ Kickstarter campaign runs for the next 29 days, so head on over there to check out what this game is about. No release date has been mentioned for Into the Stars.
