It only takes place once every 100 years and it just so happens that March marked the centennial milestone for Miami Beach. It was a collaborative celebration of style and awesome art leading up to a monumental ending.
The week of March 22nd was as fashionable as it was exciting, all because of Funkshion: Fashion Week Miami Beach. Leading up to the grand finale, it was a packed week of style joined by cutting edge art. Guests witnessed unique fashion shows filled with summer fashions by Liliana Montoya, Perry Ellis, Cubavera, celebrity stylist Calyann Barnett with her psychedelic fashion show and Style Mafia.
The ever so sophisticated ‘House of Dior’ unveiled their newest scent by introducing the audience to the commercial especially for the Miss Dior campaign starring the award-winning actress and all around beauty, Natalie Portman.
Thanks go out to Peroni Music Lounge along with the Menin Hospitality Lounge as these lounges continued to be a very inviting hangout to receive complimentary beverages, catch up with friends and taste test the food which was graciously provided by Chefs Herb Wilson and Red Ginger along with Miami’s own Pizza Bar.
Monday evening, March 23, 2015, graduates of Miami Art Institute presented their very own creative designs on the runway under the bright lights.
Art was a prominent part of the picture as well. Guests were treated to a multi-sensory installation by local artists, Magnus Sodamin and Aileen Quintana. Graphographics is an art company that contributed interesting free standing sculptures to the event located all around the tent. Models sparkled and dazzled in jewelry by Jovana Djuric.
There could be no more thrilling an ending to such a superb event than listening to the hot sounds that Miami Beach is made of. Hard Rock’s Rising Miami Beach Global Music Festival presented performances by Wyclef Jean, Flo Rida and Gloria Estefan. The crowds went wild for the music and the Centennial Celebration ended on a high note.
Although Funkshion: Fashion Week Miami Beach has come to an end for now, the fashionable fun and frolicking will return in July with Miami Swim Week and then again in October as we wind down the year in the South. See you then!
