The Ohio Herb Education Center in Gahanna, Ohio (near Columbus) is offering a free, family-friendly festival on Saturday, May 9 where herb enthusiasts can come and celebrate the many contributions herbs make to our lives.
Herb Day Festival Known as the “Herb Capital of Ohio,”the city of Gahanna is playing host to this annual event being held at Creekside District. Taking place from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., the Herb Day Festival festivities include paddle boat rides on Big Walnut Creek (weather permitting), herbal trail self-guided tours and various lectures on herbs including “Gardening With Medicinal Plants,” Using Herbs to Create Culinary Magic” and “Celebrate Spring with Container Gardening & Herbs.”
There will also be demonstrations on “Crafting Fresh Tea Wreaths” and “Introduction to Herbal Brewing: Magic, Medicine & Art.”
There will be live musical performances by the Shaw Brothers and singer Casey Richmond.
More than 30 herbal, garden-related and artisan vendors will also be on-hand with merchandise to purchase. The Herb Center’s gift shop (featuring herbal and Ohio-made products) will also be open. And be sure to check out the plant sale with over 3000 plants (and 100 varieties).
This year the Festival is also hosting “An Herbal Affair” , a VIP Preview Party being held on Friday, May 8 from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. at the Ohio Herb Education Center (110 Mill Street) with proceeds benefitting the Ohio Herb Center. Festivities include sampling herbal infusions of food, beverage and dessert (tastings by Wyandotte Winery, Pigskin Brewery and Brothers Drake Meadery) and a plant sale preview. Tickets are $35 at the door.
