Celebrity makeup artist Molly R. Stern recently lent her creativity to the beautiful and talented Reese Witherspoon for Oscar night. “I wanted to create a radiant, sexy, and effortless look.” When asked to describe her experience of working with Witherspoon, the celebrity makeup artist said “an honor akin to winning a trophy.” For Oscar night, Molly R. Stern created a combination of a sun-kissed glow with a fresh and neutral palette.
To start the look, Stern began to apply and spread St. Tropez’s One Night Only Instant Body Glow Lotion ($18) on Witherspoon’s décolletage and arms to create a rich yet golden base to the 87th Academy Award nominee.
For the face, Stern massaged ReVive’s Intensite Moisture Serum Complete Hydration ($365) to rejuvenate the skin and give Witherspoon’s face a boost of extra hydration. As she continued, she applied ReVive’s Intensite Creme Lustre Day Firming Moisture Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen ($385) to give Witherspoon’s face a dewy luminosity.
As she continued, she applied Laura Mercier’s Silk Crème Moisturizing Photo Edition Foundation in Suntan ($48) to ensure that Witherspoon’s complexion was not only natural, but fresh-looking too. “I used a shade darker than usual to give her skin a warmed up, sun-smooched feeling.” To define Witherspoon’s bone structure, Stern used Tom Ford’s Shade & Illuminate Highlighter ($77) in which she applied to darken the hollows of her cheeks. To finish the face, Stern applied Kjaer Weis Cream Blush in Lovely ($56) to the apples of Witherspoon’s cheeks to create a soft and subtle flush.
For the eyes, Stern went with a neutral and matte look where she softly smoked and shaded Witherspoon’s out with nude tones all over the lids, blending into the crease to create depth with darkness. To start the eye look, Molly R. Stern applied Laura Mercier’s Matte Eye Colour in Cafe Au Lait ($24). She used this product as a base. She continued by layering Laura Mercier’s Matte Eye Colour in Truffle ($24) on top. As she blended the two shades together, Stern buffed the outer edges while maintaining the depth of color at the base. This gave Witherspoon’s eyes softness and richness.
To continue with the eyes, Stern deepened the lash line by mixing Laura Mercier’s Matte eye Colour in Noir ($24) and Laura Mercier’s Matte Eye Colour in Ground ($24) which intensified Witherspoon’s stunning blue eyes and made them pop. Using Cle de Peau Beaute Intensifying Cream Eyeliner in No. 103 ($60) Stern darkened Witherspoon’s eyebrows, providing added definition.
Finally, for a touch of added glamour to the eyes, Stern curled the 87th Oscar nominee’s eyelashes with Shu Uemura’s Eyelash Curler ($29) and coated her lashes twice using Laura Mercier’s Faux Lash Mascara in Black ($25). To give the lashes a softer intensity, the celebrity makeup artist painted highlights into the lashes using a brown mascara.
To complete the look, Stern went with a fresh yet bright nude look for the lips. She applied Laura Mercier’s Paint Wash Liquid Lip Colour in Nude Rose ($28) followed by Laura Mercier’s Creme Smooth Lip Colour in Peche ($27) which added a “hint of brightness.”
