Giuliana Rancic has prepared for a night on Oscar’s red carpet with a darker shade of hair color. Although the E! “Fashion Police” host told The Hollywood Reporter Friday she wouldn’t respond to those that have criticized her weight; Rancic was very forthcoming in a new video for Vidal Sassoon on how to change her hair color to a darker shade using a kit at home. The progression of posted photos following the hair color transformation reveal why box hair color is never recommended, even if professional brands are promoting the product.
Readers of this column are fully aware box hair color is never endorsed here. So, many wouldn’t have been surprised that when the attached video was released Thursday and emailed to yours truly, this professional chose not to run with it, until it was evident Rancic’s color was corrected.
The video of Giuliana Rancic dying her hair using the new Vidal Sassoon Salonist is fairly self-explanatory. However, viewers only see the 40-year-old TV personality apply the product to one section on top, and then run it through a few strands on the ends. While she most likely earned a pretty penny for the promo, there is no way Rancic applied the entire bowl herself.
It is most likely the tube of color is of a better quality than other pharmacy brands of hair color. However, issue number two arose when a filler wasn’t applied to Giuliana’s very blond hair. This is a necessary step when going darker to ensure there isn’t color fade.
The third and not final issue, but for the sake of boredom the rant will end here, occurred when Us Weekly labeled the Oscars red carpet host #TeamFiery. This is so laughable, because in Giuliana Rancic’s own words, she used a medium gold brown shade as captured in a selfie on Instagram, “Closer look at my new hair color! For those asking, I used @vidalsassoonproseries #Salonist in Medium Gold Brown (at home kit!)”
Adding insult to the color disaster seen in the photo is the press release that stated, “Just in time for the Oscar beauty blitz, red carpet host, Giuliana Rancic, is now back to brunette!” The photograph attached above from the launch of her clothing line, and seen in The Hollywood Reporter one day after the Vidal Sassoon Salonist video was released, is a much darker, glossier shade than in the before and after photos and within her own social media post. There isn’t a doubt in this professional’s opinion that a salon colorist fixed Rancic’s hair prior to the promotion of her new fashion collection, G by Giuliana Rancic for HSN, and tonight’s Academy Awards, as it should’ve happened from the get-go.
Unfortunately for Rancic and Vidal Sassoon, plugging the new product so close to Oscar night was an epic fail. You’d have to be blind not to notice the huge difference, which didn’t happen with a box of hair color for under $10. The moral to the story is to always have the hair colored in a salon by a licensed professional.
