While Google Maps can be a great tool to find your way on a troublesome street or that hidden hotel you booked at the last minute, users are getting an 8-bit treat for April Fool’s Day this year. Right now, anyone that uses Google Maps can select a special edition of the classic arcade game, “Pac-Man” and play it on actual maps of streets in cities across the country.
In order to play the special edition of Pac-Man, simply go to Google Maps via the website or app for iOS or Android, find an area with lots of streets or roads (your own city or somewhere else) and click the Pac-Man button in the lower left hand corner of the screen and be transported to the ’80s for some pellet and ghost-chomping fun. You also get five lives as compared to the standard three, so you get a little room for trial and error.
This is not the first time that Google has incorporated video games into their April Fool’s Day fun. Last year, users could find various creatures from the popular “Pokémon” video game series and could even get a special Google title if they found all the different characters from the hit Nintendo game, including Pikachu, Piplup, and Mew.
The event ends on April 2nd, so be sure to check it out soon.
