One of the perks to living in Arizona is the weather it attracts people from all over the country especially during the winter months. With warm days and cool nights the holiday season is a pleasant experience and there are a number of outdoor activities to put you in the holiday spirit.
Looking for family fun or if you just want to take a romantic stroll then check out some of these holiday celebrations that go throughout the month of December and into January.
1. Glendale Glitters: Located in historic old town Glendale, Arizona is a must see during the holiday season with over a million sparkle colored holiday lights throughout a 12 block area. Through old town and the Catlin court district surrounded by antique shops, one of a kind jewelry stores, Cerreta Candy Company a family owned business that has been in Glendale for over 40 years and various food eateries. This free event goes is in full glitter now until January 10, 2015.
2. Festival of Lights: This is truly a community holiday celebration from the start of Thanksgiving weekend to New Year. If you are dreaming of a white Christmas you can experience that in Ahwatukee at the Festival of Lights. You can surround yourself in the beauty of over a million illuminated white lights down Chandler Boulevard from 24th Street to Desert Foothills Parkway. This too is a free event open every evening until 11 p.m. Through New Year’s Day 2015.
3. Las Noches de las Luminaries: This is a holiday favorite in the valley for adults the Desert Botanical Garden is transformed into a romantic illuminated desert garden event. With thousands of luminaries lining the paths throughout the garden both locals and visitors experience the Botanical Gardens in a special way during the holiday season. There is live entertainment, food and drink and reservations are highly suggested since this ticketed event sells out quickly. The dates are December 5-6, 12-13, 19-23, and 26-30 from 5:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
4. Mesa Temple Gardens Christmas Lights: If you are looking for a spiritual connection to your holiday then take a drive to Mesa and stroll through the Mesa Temple Christmas Lights display. With several large and small nativity displays that feature nativities from around the world. Thousands of holiday lights will be on display and nightly concert series are featured starting on Sundays thru Wednesday at 7 p.m. going till December 25. The concerts take place at the visitor’s center which is adjacent to the temple and free tours are available from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. during the holiday lights display.
