A little bit of snow and some ice can make for interesting fishing. Bass in the grass fishing shallow cover to mid depth, you can cast for distance but casting right below the still boat still catches fish. Three to five feet is the place to work on the rocky points. Drops shot rigs, jigs, and Roboworm during the full winter pattern and some early transition pre-spawners. Nights in the teens and warmer days, February has been known to start right off warm and change it all up.

Fishing will crank up as the water rises and warms during the day. It will be interesting to see if that is the way the fishing goes for the pros. Rapala X-Rap Prop, Hildebrandt HeadBanger, Rapala Rippin’ Rap, Yamamoto Swim Senko, and Yamamoto Fat Baby Craw are some good go to baits in that list.

Randall Tharp and South Carolinan Casey Ashley have fished the lake in late February thanks to FLW Tour during pre-spawn. Flooded creeks have been the way to go the past couple of years but that will depend on how much spring rain-The Farmers Almanac calls for rainy and mild.
According to Bassfan.com Cliff Crochet noticed the lack of grass in December on Lake Hartwell Jacob Wheeler has a feel for the lake due to time spent there getting ready for his first Tour event. Chris Lane fished his first ‘Classic’ there. “The weather was beautiful and the fish were biting. I have a much different mindset than I did then. I know Alton Jones won it deep in 2008.”
