May 20 UPDATE: Romeo was pulled by rescue. He is safe!
May 15 UPDATE: Romeo is presumed to be dead. 20 dogs were killed at the shelter and he is no longer listed in a kennel. Heartbreaking.
UPDATE: He is still urgent. The shelter took in 29 more dogs than were rescued or adopted. They are packed! Romeo can be fostered temporarily for up to two months. PLEASE SHARE!
Friendly, affectionate, walks beautifully on a leash, take treats very gently. These are just some of the comments about Romeo, a dog in danger at a Tampa, Florida shelter.
Romeo is just another pit bull in a crowded public access shelter. He’s on the euthanasia list which means that when a cage is needed, he will be killed. Romeo is a darling dog. He’s already had surgery at the shelter for his entropy in both eyes and he was also neutered. He doesn’t have heartworm, so he’s really ready to go home with a family.
At one point, he lived with a family who cared. He had a microchip, but the contact information was incorrect, or so the family claimed. He is housebroken, and he loves to be around people. In fact, when he’s with people, his tail wags so vigorously, his whole body sways from side to side!
Romeo was in a doggie play group and he was fine with other dogs. He really didn’t interact with them much — perhaps he never had a dog friend to play with. People who met him comment:
Romeo also knows down, he will lay down. He also knows sit.”
Another volunteer commented:
Met this handsome guy. He is very calm and friendly.”
Everyone who has met Romeo loves him. He’s everything one might want in a dog — affectionate, friendly, well-behaved, housebroken…the list goes on. But, he’s been at the shelter too long. It’s imperative that Romeo get pulled by a rescue immediately or he will be killed. Are people passing him by because his looks are nothing special? If so, it’s a huge mistake. This dog is special inside and out.
