On a bleak January day, this reporter looked forward to seeing all the new items Henri Bendel had on offer for the Summer of 2015. The right collection of accessories, released to the public in the dead of winter, can inspire everything from a closet overhaul to far-flung travel plans. This latest roll-out from Henri Bendel does just that – causing visions of hot climates and sparkling nights; and a slightly different, slightly improved life, to shimmer before this reporter’s eyes.
A collection featuring teal and neon yellow was a nice opener – pencil bags, totes, makeup kits, and iPad clutches, all in a tastefully bright scheme that brought to mind Brooklyn in the springtime (the first weekend when girls start wearing dresses again). A metallic story was created as a response to consumer demand for more accessories in silver, and was inspired by Miami. For the traveling executive taking a meeting with an investor in Tribeca, there is a simple luggage set done in black or pink – a four-wheel suitcase, a feminized version of an attache bag, and a matching laptop case. A clutch and a handbag are both rendered in faux-shagreen – a copper color that would beautifully set off anyone’s tan. And a set of sparkle bangle bracelets would look as good at a concert as they would over dinner.
If these seasonal showroom collections can teach us anything, it’s that spring (and summer) always come.
