You might not know it yet, but Henrix is on his way to being the sound of miami and quite possibly the entire country very soon. His music has been lurking around town since 2013 and this year everything that he has worked hard for and been through is about to pay off. Read the following interview to learn more about Henrix work ethic, his collaborations and his upcoming single released on Kaskade label Arkade.
Your back from Miami Music Week. It’s the calm after the storm and the dust has settled. What was your experience like?
It was insane! Miami Music Week really takes a tole on you to be honest. I start earlier than most people since I do an opening party the Saturday before, so I go for over a week of partying. Its day parties & interviews then night parties and also all the gigs as well. I really didn’t have time to breathe so I can say it was insane this year.
You have a lot of new music and material on the way for the people. Can you talk about your creative process up until this point in your career?
Well I started off with Underground tech house in the beginning of my career. Now I really don’t have a certain process, I kind of just make what Im feeling at the moment. Sometimes I want to make dance Music, sometimes Hip Hop/trap and I’m even working on an old school funk record haha. I used to really care about what I should or shouldn’t make but I’m over that. I love all kinds of music and I don’t think I should be secluded from making a certain genre because people only know me for a certain sound.
You’ve been working with a quite few big labels so far. Do you think that young producers suppose to seek for major labels and present their music to them or rather take care of things/invest by themselves to get noticed?
That’s a double edged sword honestly. they both have their perks and both have their bad sides. While on a major label you have the marketing and money support from that label it also restricts you from reaching a broader audience that releasing on other labels. Investing in yourself is the key thing in this industry. No one cares about your career more than yourself. Investing in yourself you have that creative freedom of doing your own thing and not worrying about a label telling you that your record needs to be stripped down and changed in any way. A lot of times A&Rs have no idea what they’re talking about and think a certain thing is good for the record and its really not.
How did you and Bream create your latest single “Alright” ?
It started with Bream sending me and idea and I really liked it so we went back n forth on Skype on finishing the instrumental, after that I got Zashanell in the studio and we recorded the vocals. It was a pretty quick process honestly.
After being on the road for a bit and getting back from WMC parties where you’ve played at quite few interesting ones, what are your studio plans right now? Any projects you’ve just started? Any interesting collaborations no one knows yet about?
Yes plenty of new tracks coming, I started 2 new collabs this week, one with Laidback Luke & one with Inpetto. Also recently finished a track with Adrien Mezsi that im really loving right now. Im also trying finish a few remixes and my own solo originals. Its crazy right now but I cant stop, I’m way too inspired and there’s so many ideas flowing in my head haha!
I hear talk of a summer anthem releasing under Steve Angello’s Size Records… Talk a little bit about it. As well as other future releases. I’ve heard that there’s something serious happening?
Haha yea my track Raverz with Adrien Mezsi, its been done for a while now and we’re just waiting on release for that one. I also got a track coming out on Kaskades new label Arkade, did that one with Digital Lab. Also have a track I did last year called Acid, Rave, Sex that got a lot of attention coming out in May on Thrive music which I’m really excited about.
You will be playing at Avalon Hollywood on 25th of April. Share your feeling with us about this forthcoming gig.
Ahhh I love Avalon! The sound system in there is so sick! First time I played there was with Dirty South right when they switched there sound system and its so sick. Also the vibe in there is amazing as well and I cant wait for the 25th! Plus Los Angeles is such a great city to play in!You will be playing at Avalon Hollywood on 25th of April. We all know that having a succesful career is matter of making right decisions. Have you ever had any regrets about things you did or things you didn’t but you feel now that should be done?
I dont regret anything I’ve ever done as I feel everything decision you make good or bad is a learning process. Would I make certain decisions differently if I had the chance? Yea probably…but I don’t regret any of them as thats how you grow as a person and artist. Not everything can be perfect or life would be boring if it was like that. Its how you get over the wrong things you’ve done that matters.
Henrix latest single featuring Bream and Zashanell entitled, Alright, is out available now. This Saturday Henrix will headline a sold out show at the Avalon in Hollywood. Stay tuned for more great music by Henrix.
