Alana Thompson, also known as Honey Boo Boo, and her mother, Mama June Shannon, have been ordered to get serious about weight loss and overhaul their diets to combat their dangerous obesity. Honey Boo Boo and Mama June appeared on the Feb. 25 episode of The Doctors, where host Dr. Travis Stork confronted the duo about their unhealthy eating habits.
Obesity experts from “The Doctors” who staged a health intervention for Honey Boo Boo were shocked by what they found in their refrigerator (see video above).
“When I looked in your fridge, Mama June, I’m sorry but I didn’t see anything that’s going to either improve Alana’s weight or decrease inflammation in her body,” said Dr. Stork. “She is an obese 9-year-old. You need to take some responsibility here.”
The 4-foot-9 Honey Boo Boo, who weighs 125 pounds, is 55 to 65 pounds overweight, said Stork. She should weigh between 60 and 70 pounds, explained Stork, a former ER doctor.
When asked about her diet, Honey Boo Boo confessed she loves sweets and fried foods. “I love a lot of stuff deep fried,” said Thompson. “I love deep fried Oreos.”
Mama June Lost 120 Pounds on Low-Carb Diet
In 2013, Mama June lost 120 pounds and six dress sizes without exercise following a low-carb diet, Celebrity Health reported. Mama June cut back on sugary sodas and doughnuts and ate a lot of chicken, baked foods and cheese cubes.
Low carb diets such as the Atkins, ketogenic and Atkins diets promote rapid weight loss by forcing the body to burn fat for fuel, according to obesity expert Dr. Eric Westman, co-author of Keto Clarity.
Mama June, who once tipped the scales at 400 pounds, insisted she was never ashamed of her appearance, even when she was obese. Shannon’s dramatic weight loss fueled rumors she got bariatric surgery or used diet pills, but she denied those reports.
After speaking with Mama June, Dr. Stork put Honey Boo Boo on an age-appropriate weight loss plan modeled after his bestselling book, The Doctor’s Diet. Honey Boo Boo was also given a bike and advised to exercise. “The Doctors” will monitor Honey Boo Boo’s weight loss progress over the next few months.
Honey Boo Boo first became famous after starring on the hit TLC reality series, “Toddlers & Tiaras.” She then starred on her own reality TV show, “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo,” for four seasons.
“Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” was cancelled in 2014 after reports surfaced that Mama June was dating Mark McDaniel, a convicted child molester. A shocking investigation later revealed McDaniel had sexually abused Mama June’s own daughter, Anna Cardwell, when she was 8 years old.
