Throw a hot last minute New Year’s Eve party
Don’t have anywhere to go New Year’s Eve? Well don’t let get you down. Why not invite a few friends over who may have been ringing in the New Year alone or at a pricey bar? So before you settle in for a night of flannel pj’s and Dick Clark’s Rocking Eve, we can show you a quick and easy way to throw a great blast!
Food is an important component for any party but most importantly for New Year’s Eve. Don’t think you have to pull together a huge home made meal for the night, far from it. By hitting the grocery store for a few items or even some quick take out you can create a nice small plate menu. One idea is to hit your favorite Chinese food takeout. Order up a few eggs or spring rolls, some fried or steamed dumplings or even some boneless spare ribs. Easily reheated and great for small plates.
Set up some dips with cut vegetables or cut up French bread. Cream cheese is a go to ingredients for making delicious dips or spreads. Sour cream is another good base. A favorite is mixing cream cheese with a packet of dry Italian salad dressing mix, like Good Seasonings. Soften a block of cream and mix well. Serve with crackers or toasted sliced Italian bread. For a more decadent spread, use a small can of crab meat, a block of soften cream cheese add a few seasoning like Old Bay and you have a wonderful rich dip.
Another quick and easy idea is bacon wrapped asparagus. It is as simple as the name. All you need is a stalks of asparagus then wrap bacon around the stalk then bake at 400 for about 10 minutes. Serve with a horseradish sauce that you can make from a ½ cup of mayonnaise mixed with a few teaspoons of horseradish. Salt and pepper to taste. This is a simple and easy way to make your table of appetizers look diverse and so tempting. One more thing to think about is some simple but delectable desserts. Cupcakes fit that bill and many really great ones can be found easily at your local supermarket bakery. Mini cupcakes are a great choice. You can always up the ante by adding some favorite candies to these mini marvels
Now for drinks. Keep it simple. Have a go to cocktail for the night and of course, champagne for the big moment of the New Year. Why not have a punch bowl of something a little tangy but also a bit sweet so it will go with everything. Sangria is a great option for the night. A rather light and nice version of the typical sangria is the strawberry peach sangria. Take 2 bottles of sparkling wine or champagne (cheap is good if not better, I like cheap Asti Spumunti or Andre champagne) then add 2 cans of sprite or 7 up (if you can find a peach flavored soda even better) , Add 2 cups of chopped strawberries, and a ¼ cup of sugar. If you can’t find peach flavored soda add a few slices of canned peaches diced up. Stir together and have a fantastic night.
So here are a few ideas of putting together a quick and memorable New Year’s Eve for you with a few friends. So don’t sit around eating leftover Christmas cookies. Have a blast, say good bye to 2014 and welcome 2015!
