Many Disney buffs may remember the iconic series “DuckTales” that ran from 1987-90. The money-making Scrooge McDuck and his ‘firequacker’ nephews had young fans glued to their TV sets during the Disney afternoon cartoon block and now the word is out that they are bringing it back! Entertainment Weekly posted the exciting news on Wednesday after the official announcement was made by Disney.
All of the adventures and fun will be relived in this animated series that is slated for 2017. In addition to Uncle Scrooge and nephews Huey, Dewey, and Louie, this reboot will also bring back Donald Duck, who always seemed to be losing his temper over something. Other animated characters that you may remember will be brought back as well, such as Duckworth, Launchpad McQuack, Gyro Gearloose, Flintheart Glomgold, Magica DeSpell & Poe, Mrs. Beakley, Ma Beagle and the Beagle Boys, and Webbigail Vanderquack.
This reboot is exciting news for older viewers that loved this animated series. It may also become favorite for the new generation of Disney fans as well. It was so well-loved that a “DuckTales” movie, “Treasure of the Lost Lamp,” came out in 1990 and was just as popular as the show. Disney XD’s SVP, Mark Buhaj explained the sentiments of many in the official statement he put out.
“DuckTales has a special place in Disney’s TV animation history,” he said. “It drew its inspiration from Disney Legend Carl Barks’ comic books and through its storytelling and artistic showmanship, set an enduring standard for animated entertainment that connects with both kids and adults. Our new series will bring that same energy and adventurous spirit to a new generation.”
Hopefully they will bring all of the original detail that makes this series so memorable. Some may remember how much Scrooge McDuck loved going for a swim in his money vault, Donald Duck throwing his ever-loving temper tantrums, Huey, Dewey and Louie getting themselves into all kinds of trouble, and the awesome theme song that gets stuck in your head forever. Disney PR tweeted out this cute post referring to another popular show featuring ducks.
“A new DuckTales series is coming! #thefirstduckdynasty #DisneyXD,” they wrote.
It may be a long two years to wait to be back in Duckburg but in the meantime, there is always YouTube where you can watch the older versions to get ready for the new series. If you don’t have Disney XD on your cable lineup, it may be time to get it. Are you singing ‘Woo-hoo’ to this new “DuckTales?”
