America is a nation in which children and people live in poverty. It is a nation in which the Middle Class has come to an economic standstill and is eroding in numbers. Conservatives in government think that is alright because it is just part of the economic free for all. Things will work out and life goes on is their creed, apparently.
If you ask “how are people doing” in the U.S. today, most are doing alright, however many are not. So, adding more water to the soup may not make it more nutritious without adding additional ingredients such as education and living assistance. That is a big ideological dispute in America. How much assistance is needed to give to people a start? How much opportunity and upward mobility is in the economy to nourish the stock? Who will pay for the cost of absorbing immigrants? What is the nation’s population development policy?
“Income inequality is all over the headlines, but it’s clear that income and other money metrics, such as GDP, only tell a small part of the story. Measure of America brings the whole picture to light in three categories: education, health and the ability to earn a decent living. We then break it down to understand what’s happening in each of those areas and why. Too much to tell in one blog post. A good place to start from here is our signature report: Measure of America.”

The news is that the Obama administration is about to take executive action to provide relief to 12 million illegal immigrants who are in the pipeline. The debate is about whether they should be in the pipeline or to be sent home. According to reports, Obama’s decision will triage the immigrants which will likely result in half being given amnesty. Those with criminal records and other problems will be deported. That sounds like compromise solution that will make sense.
However, dealing with illegal immigrants is only addressing the symptom of the problem. It doesn’t address why so many people are knocking on the door and climbing fences on the southern border. It doesn’t answer policy questions about the need of a sustainable economic model?
Good government gets to the heart of the problem. Bad government touches the symptoms or ignores them altogether.
“US to offer refugee status to some undocumented child migrants
Children under 21 in El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras with parents who are legal US residents could start applying next month under the plan

The United States will soon offer refugee status to some undocumented youths from El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras as part of a wider immigration reform effort.
Vice-president Joe Biden announced on Friday that minors under the age of 21 who live in the Central American countries, and who have parents who are legal residents in the US, could start applying for refugee status from next month.
“It provides those seeking asylum a right way to come to our country, as opposed to crossing the border illegally,” he told a Central American conference at the Inter-American Development Bank in Washington.
About 68,000 unaccompanied minors, mostly from El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras, illegally entered the US from Mexico this year. Harrowing scenes of children tramping across the desert triggered a logistical scramble to accommodate them and a political row in Washington.
