On tonight’s Spike special titled, “New Year’s Ink” four previous non-winners from different seasons have a chance to win $10,000 for their tattooing skills. Dave Navarro told the group of four that each of them left with something to prove in previous seasons of “Ink Master.” Tonight, Al Fliction from season one, Cee Jay from season two, Gentle Jay Blondel from season four and Josh Hibbard from seasons three and five will be going for the title not only they; but many of their fans believe they deserved.
As the three familiar judges entered the scene; Dave Navarro, Chris Nunez and Oliver Peck, they told the contestants that they were going for the prize of $10,000. The first round all four were competing to do cover ups and judging two skills in each round. This round the two skills were Adaptability and Ingenuity. There were four skulls for them to choose; and as one skull was marked, the artist who chose that skull had the ability to assign the human canvases for the challenge. Gentle Jay chose the marked skull and was happy to assign the hardest tattoos to Josh and Al. Josh got the butt crack tattoo and Al had the back of a guy’s head. Jay gave himself a skull with a raven to cover up an easy tattoo, and Cee Jay received a Celtic cross to cover up a shamrock. There was wording involved in Cee Jay’s cover up, so she made sure the canvas wrote the name down so she would not misspell it. When time was up, the judges critiqued their work. Jay’s raven was not dynamic; Al’s was an abstract piece of art that the judges did not appreciate. Josh’s was not the best work he ever did and Cee Jay’s had a blow out, so now the judges had to choose the best of the worst, which belonged to Jay, while the loser was Al. But back in the loft, Jay was running his mouth; not something new.
The next round, the canvases wanted a tattoo that reminded them of their New Year’s resolutions. Each artist had to incorporate Finesse and Saturation. Jay got to assign the canvases again and each had five hours to create their best work. Josh received the rib tattoo, and Jay tried to give her signs to not change the location of her tattoo, because Josh tried to give her reasons why not to have her ribs done. She even told Josh how Jay was holding up signs; which she did not like. Josh said that he was a dick and a douche bag, but Josh won the round and Cee Jay was sent home.
Now it is Josh’s turn to give Jay the most difficult tattoo. This time they will be tested on Color-Theory and Composition. The tattoos must be colorful and visually appealing. This was Jay’s turn to call Josh a dick. Back in the loft before the final judging, Jay was bragging about how great he was and so much better than Josh. At the critique, Josh’s tattoo was stiff. Jay’s tattoo was not met well with by the judges either. But when the judges voted, Josh’s tattoo won unanimously and he went home to Portland with $10,000 but no title of “Ink Master.” Meanwhile, Gentle Jay proclaimed he was better than Josh, and fans have not seen the last of him.
