Here is another trouble symptom, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel is resigning, according to NBC News. Why is this a trouble symptom? It is because President Obama has been unable to recruit and retain superior qualified executives to manage the nation’s critical departments. A president’s first task is to recruit and staff executive positions. Doing this properly will create a multiplier effect in an administration’s performance. Doing it poorly will greatly undermine government performance, as we have experienced. It is why American voters should select and elect presidential candidates who have superior CEO credentials in the private or public sector, and ideally, both.
Obama didn’t have it and he doesn’t cut it as a CEO that is commander-in-chief.
Nothing can be done about it now, except American voters had better observe and accept responsibility for their poor choices and decisions.
Chuck Hagel was a lame choice as critics indicate. Is that true? Let’s see.
Chuck Hagel Resume:
He is a self-made professional who is a Purple Heart veteran of the Vietnam War. He is a lightweight academically, however became a successful private sector CEO. He entered politics in Nebraska from which he was elected Senator. Here is the trouble, aside from managing a relatively small business, he comes from a sparsely populated state. He leveraged partisan political seniority to gain executive positions in the Department of Defense. Obama may have picked him up to appease Republicans while believing that he had an executive that he could control.

The Middle East policies in various places have drawn criticism and part of the blame rests with Hagel. Now, he is leaving and that may be alright if Obama can find a competent replacement. This analyst would suggest Buck McKeon, for instance.
The larger problem here is that Americans need to get a high return from executive appointees. The expectation should be that they will serve for a minimum of one term and maybe two terms. Anything less than that and Americans are cheated and must bear the risk and cost of new appointments, approval, and discontinuity.
