Tell us a little bit about yourself, anything you’d like your readers to know:
My name is Sheena Hutchinson, I currently have two self published paranormal romance books on Amazon. I have an unnatural addiction to fried foods and chocolate. I’m a born & raised New Yorker so I drive like a maniac, I’m very impatient, and my blood type is Starbucks.
What made you do decide to become an author?
I’ve always loved to write. I’ve never been good with speaking or emotions. But writing has always been a way for me to express myself. After a rough period in my life, I took to writing as a way to cope. That writing grew into something more and I hope it continues to blossom.
Who are your favorite authors, and how have they influenced your writing?
I refuse to pick favorites, but I have to say I aspire to write an international phenomenon like JK Rowling, I crave to be descriptive like Cassandra Clare, and my ultimate goal is to write fantasy like George RR Martin.

Tell us about your book!
My first book, Seraphina: The Awakening revolves around Seraphina Cross who is experiencing these visions that make her feel like there is more to life. It isn’t until one moment, one accident that her life changes forever. She awakens the next day a new person in more ways than one. You follow Sera on her journey to figure out what exactly happened to her that fateful night.
Everyone has their idiosyncrasies, what’s yours?
I’m a neat freak. I can’t begin working if my desk is a mess… that’s why I usually end up at Starbucks.
What’s your favorite book turned movie and why?
I’m going to have to go with The Harry Potter movies. It was just a magical and imaginative world that was so amazing to see sprawled out on the big screen.
What’s your favorite genre to read?
I love anything Paranormal but my favorite books to read are Young Adult Dystopias. There is just something about being transported to an alternate Earth or a whole new universe entirely that takes my breath away. Plus, I find it so interesting how creative other Authors can be.
Which do you do more, read or write, and why?
It is always a struggle dividing my time between the two. But nowadays, I have to say I write a whole lot more than I read.
What is your writing process like, and what’s your favorite part of it?
Well, my favorite part is being inspired. That rush you get when an awesome idea just hits you. Then my “process” I would say is that I write entire scenes at a time. I have to put them down on paper as they come to be otherwise I’ll forget little details. Once I have a bunch of scenes written I’ll put it all together and outline until I fill in all the remaining blanks.
What are you working on now?
I have quite a few projects in the works or rolling around in my head. Seraphina #3 is a definite, but I’m also trying to branch out into contemporary New Adult and my ultimate project will be this Young Adult Dystopia I’ve been mulling over and over for a while now.
What’s next for you?
Who knows! That’s kind of what I love about it, that I don’t know what the future holds.
Where do you see yourself in five years–in a literary sense?
Hopefully looking at a shelf in a Barnes & Noble full with books that have my name on them.
What’s the best advice you have for an aspiring author?
I heard this quote at a conference I attended, “You must read 1,000 books to the 1 book you want to write.” I can’t tell you how valuable I found that piece of information. I believe to my very core that reading helps not only my writing, but it gives me ideas and keeps my imagination sharp. Another piece of wisdom I can’t take credit for– Never give up. If this is what you really want to do don’t let anyone convince you otherwise.
Sheena Hutchinson will be an attending author at the Bright Lights, Big City Signing event March 21st, 2015 in NYC hosted by Halos and Horns Book Blog.
