Janay Rice speaks out finally breaking her silence around the night she was knocked out in the elevator by her husband Ray Rice, which was seen in a video that went viral across the nation. Janay sat for an interview with ESPN on November 5, but with the stipulation the interview was held back from the public until after the U.S. District judge handed down the ruling on the NFL’s actions, which happened this week, according to TMZ on Nov. 29.
That indicates Ray Rice is to be reinstated with the NFL. He won his appeal, according to ESPN today. Ray thanked everyone from his family to his friends along with the judge who heard the appeal. He sent a special shout out to his wife Janay and said that he made “an inexcusable mistake” and he takes full responsibility for his actions.
Janay Rice left no stone unturned in this interview. She went from Ray Rice spitting at her to being cold cocked by the man she would later marry. For starters, she doesn’t remember what the two of them were arguing about that was so serious that it brought them to the point of Ray dragging her unconscious body out of an elevator. She does remember that it was Ray who got physical first that ill-fated night in Atlantic City. Janay said, “”As we were arguing, he was on his phone and not looking at me. I went to reach for his phone, and when he grabbed it back, he spit at me and I slapped him,” according to ESPN News.
Janay maintains that Ray told the commissioner and his colleagues “everything that happened.” She said that there wasn’t any reason at all to lie because Ray was aware there was a video and both he and Janay assumed the NFL knew what was in the video, even though they had no idea if the NFL officials saw the video or not. Ray assumed they knew about the content of the video whether they watched it or not.
After all of this Janay’s anger is aimed at the Baltimore Ravens for cutting Ray. She was angry that he was “discarded by the Ravens,” who were like family to them. She said anytime the Ravens needed a player to show up at a community event, Ray was the first to offer to go.
She also said that she is very aware that her public apology for her role in this incident has angered people, but she did put her hands on Ray and felt that she too should apologize. She said that Ray was wrong, he knows he was wrong, “but at the same time who am I to put my hands on somebody?”
She also said in the video that she asked Ray how he felt seeing her like that and how he felt when he got out of the elevator. Janay said Ray told her he was terrified because security was there. He also told Janay that he was thinking “What did I just do?”
In a clip of the interview shown on “Fox and Friends Weekend” live Saturday morning Janay said that she was furious with Ray for the elevator incident but she knew it didn’t change her love for him. Despite popular belief that she should have cut her loses and walked away, she couldn’t because it was one incident in an otherwise good relationship. That is why she went on to marry the man who was seen as her abuser on the elevator tape.
Janay said that what happened on the elevator is still foggy to her. She only knows what happened because Ray has told her. She herself does not remember. Ray told Janay that she slapped him again and that is when he hit her. That is the last thing she remembers about the fight.
The next thing she remembers is being surrounded by cops in the lobby of the casino, where they were separated and both arrested. She said she was still drunk while talking to the cops, but when they told her what happened, she did not believe them saying “that is not us.” She felt fine and didn’t have any marks on her face or any injuries on her body.
