The highly successful “Hunger Games” franchise may be nearing its end, but Jennifer Lawrence proved she’s not pigeonholed to her role as Katniss Everdeen. The 24-year-old has already picked up an Oscar for Best Performance by an actress in a Supporting Role for “American Hustle,” recently scored a Billboard chart hit for “Hanging Tree” and has now been named the top-grossing actor of 2014 by Forbes magazine.
Lionsgate and Twentieth Century Fox are celebrating Lawrence’s success which helped “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1” and “X-Men: Days of Future Past” rake in a combined total of $1.4 billion worldwide at the box office this year. The annual list, which bases rankings on the year’s most successful flicks and who starred in them, puts Lawrence ahead of Chris Pratt who came in second with $1.2b thanks to “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “The Lego Movie.” Scarlett Johansson ranks third among the list, crediting $1.18b to “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Lucy” and “Under the Skin.”
Lawrence has another successful year ahead of her with “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2” arriving on November 20th, 2015 and “Joy” which premieres on December 25th, 2015. “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2” marks the final installment of the big-screen adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ fictional trilogy, which will follow Lawrence’s character Katniss as she leads a revolution against the autocratic Capitol. David O’Russell’s “Joy,” which also stars Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro, centers on the true story of a struggling Long Island single mom who becomes a successful entrepreneur. In 2016, Lawrence will captivate audiences once again as Mystique in “X-Men: Apocalypse” on May 27th.
