Jillian Michaels has made a career out of changing lives, whether it was her numerous stints as one of the trainers on NBC’s The Biggest Loser or her upcoming Spike TV series Sweat Inc. Now she’s working with Kmart to help support March of Dimes. This weekend, Jillian participated in March of Dimes’ Los Angeles walk and dropped by a local Kmart to surprise shoppers. We caught up with her Sunday to ask about her involvement with the charity and what’s on deck for her in 2015.
“This is my first time supporting a March of Dimes event as a Kmart ambassador, and it has been exciting!” Jillian enthused. “As a mom, I’ve always been passionate about the cause and eager to get involved in a more impactful way. Together with Kmart, I’m excited to drive more awareness to the cause and the March of Dimes organization – their work has made such incredible strides in its mission to support healthy babies.”
As part of her new gig, she was involved in the March of Dimes’ Los Angeles “March for Babies” walk Saturday, an experience she called “invigorating! I was able to kick off the walk with Team Kmart to get participants motivated and even more pumped up to support the cause. It was great to be surrounded by people who were there to make a difference.”
But Jillian didn’t stop there. She also designed a T-shirt for Saturday’s walk, as she’s got her own clothing brand at Kmart called Impact. “Impact is a Kmart-exclusive line and features apparel and accessories for running, yoga, lifestyle and more,” she explained. “It’s my first-ever activewear line, so it was great to create pieces that are stylish and functional for being active!”
Now she’s hoping that Examiner readers and Kmart shoppers will join her in supporting March of Dimes. We asked Jillian what the best ways are for you to get involved.
“Making donations and spreading awareness are the most important things you can do – help others understand the importance of this cause and where they can donate to support March of Dimes,” she said. “Now thru June 20th, anyone can visit their local Kmart store or [use the] online link at kmart.com/marchofdimes to make a donation – it’s so simple and will help make a difference for families and newborn babies everywhere.”
The new partnership is just the latest of Jillian’s charitable endeavors; she’s always been about positive change, and it’s hard for her to even consider which of her many experiences has been the most memorable. “That’s a really tough question,” she reflected. “I have been particularly moved by people helping people all over the world in all different circumstances.
“I’ve volunteered in India at Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity Home. I’ve been to Walter Reed Hospital to visit our wounded warriors and gone on a USO tour to work out our troops overseas. I’ve been to the slums of Port Au Prince, Haiti and built homes for orphaned children. Asking me to pick one thing is impossible.”
And she balances it all with being a mother and continuing forward with her still-busy career as a fitness professional and television personality. What’s next for Jillian in 2015?
“The biggest thing ahead for me right now is my new reality competition series called Sweat Inc. premiering this fall,” she said. “I’ve partnered with Spike TV to bring this to life, and I’m excited for a new venture! The show will feature aspiring fitness entrepreneurs who will compete to prove they’ve come up with the best new exercise program.”
