John Lodge has revealed more details on his upcoming solo studio album 10,000 Light Years Ago. The Moody Blues co-frontman will release his second solo effort in Canada and the U.S. on May 5 via Esoteric Antenna/MVD.
According to a news release posted Feb. 27 at the official website of The Moody Blues, the legendary British prog-rocker will issue the album’s title track as the first single digitally on April 14. 10,0000 Light Years Ago is the first follow up to the multi-platinum seller’s 1977 solo effort Natural Avenue, which was recently reissued on CD and vinyl via by Esoteric.
Recorded at various locations and completed at The Mix Factory Studios in Bonita Springs, Florida, the album features eight new tracks from the veteran singer-songwriter. It includes guest contributions from ex-Moodies Ray Thomas and Mike Pinder on a track titled “Simply Magic,” as well as from guitar whiz Chris Spedding and others. Commenting on the theme behind the new album, Lodge writes, “Back in the 60s The Moody Blues wrote a stage show which became the album Days of Future Passed. The theme encompassed the past, present and future experiences of our lives.”
He adds, “With 10,000 Light Years Ago I’ve continued this theme of constant evolution. Everything in the future remains in reach – and although the past is behind us, it once was our future.”
The album will receive a U.S. pre-launch in April in New York, and a U.K. Album launch in June. Lodge will join The Moody Blues on their recently announced 2015 tour of North America. Timeless Flight – The Polydor Years Tour, which will kick off March 19 in Worchester, Massachusetts, at the Hanover Theatre for the Performing Arts and wrap up May 10, 2015 in Morrison, Colorado, at Red Rocks Amphitheatre.
