Wednesday’s snow coupled with a nice cold snap earlier in the week mean only mean one thing, it is time to think about the ski season. And several of our local ski resorts have announced that they are opening this weekend for skiing. So where can you go and what is going on? Here is a brief overview.
Seven Springs Resort will be opening this weekend beginning Friday for skiing and snowboarding. The slopes will be open 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Snow tubing will also be open from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. each day for two hour sessions. All-day passes will be $53 for adults and $49 for kids 6 to 11 years of age. The snow tubing park will cost $28 per adult and $23 per child 4 to 11 years of age for a two hour session. On Friday, you can stop by the information booth in the ski lodge to sign-up for free prizes like lift tickets and other items including a Pinnacle snowboard.
Hidden Valley is also opening on Friday, November 28, 2014 for skiing and snowboarding. The slopes will be open 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. All-day passes will be $37 for adults and $29 for kids 6 to 11 years of age. While you are there, check out some great gift ideas in the Ski and Snowboard Shop.
In addition Whitetail Resort, west of Mercersburg, will be opening on Friday. The slopes will be open from 8:30 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. The cost for an all-day pass for all ages is $39. They are expecting to have at least 7 trails open with at least 10 park features. At this time, the snow tubing park is not yet open. While you are there, check out the Advantage Card deals.
Mystic Mountain at Nemacolin Woodlands will not open for skiing and snowboarding until December 24, but the snow tubing park will be open beginning on Friday. The park will be open Saturday and Sunday. The cost will be $20 for a two hour session. Please contact the resort for hours and more information. Reservations are required and can be made by calling (866)496-6957.
Wisp Resort in McHenry, MD will be opening this weekend also. They will have limited skiing and snowboarding Friday through Sunday. Wisp Trail will be open all three days from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. and the Central Park Terrain Park will be open Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. The cost for lift tickets for these days will be $39 per adult and $34 for a junior pass. In addition the Wisp Mountain Park will be open from 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday. They will have ice skating, snow tubing and the mountain coaster open.
Other resorts in the area will not be open for this weekend. At this time, Blue Knob is expecting to open the second weekend of December, although it could be as early as next weekend if the weather conditions cooperate. At this time Tussey Mountain has not announced an anticipated opening date at this time.
So after the stress of shopping for those black Friday deals, head out to the slopes to relax.
