Was Taylor Swift nixed by Joni Mitchell after the “Blank Space” singer was rumored to play her in the folk artist’s biopic? Apparently, Mitchell did say “no” to Swift taking on the lead role, and the reason why is that she felt the talented blonde is only a girl “with high cheekbones.” In a new report this Wednesday, November 26, 2014, US Magazine News shares that Swift was therefore unable to take on the starring part as Mitchell in the movie.
No Joni Mitchell, aylor Swift rift appears to be in the cards, despite what allegations may say. As millions of fans can attest, Taylor Swift is an international superstar. Yet folk artist Joni Mitchell said a very clear, resounding “no” to the former singer playing her in a new movie. Mitchell confirmed this week that Swift, who has recently tried a new pop spin on her songs in her hit new “1989” album, was ultimately unable to play her in the biopic, or any others for that matter.
Why was Joni Mitchell so adamant in turning down Swift for the important film role? Apparently, the folk singer said that she hadn’t seen a movie with any key scenes, only found a girl with high cheekbones. Taylor Swift, who is now 24 years old, was rumored to have been in consideration to play the popular singer back in 2012. The biopic itself was an adaptation of “Girls Like Us.” The original biography told the stories of Joni Mitchell, Carole King, and Carly Simon.
“I squelched that,” Mitchell, 71, revealed of the aforementioned movie. “I said to the producer, ‘All you’ve got is a girl with high cheekbones.’ It’s just a lot of gossip, you don’t have the great scenes.”
Fortunately, it does not appear that Mitchell’s problems with the biopic were any fault of Taylor Swift, however, says the Entertain This News site in a press release. The reason why she said no was because the biography’s original subject matter was troublesome as it was, and included quite a bit of “nonsense.” The popular book, “Girls Like Us,” was written by author Sheila Weller.
“There’s a lot of nonsense about me in books,” Mitchell added. “Assumptions, assumptions, assumptions.”
Regardless of her not being viewed as an ideal “actress” to take on the pivotal role of Joni Mitchell, Swift is still a huge fan of the popular folk singer. Regardless of the role, the blonde bombshell recently said in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine that she looks up to Mitchell and finds her an expressive star.
“When I first started drinking — when I was like 21 — I used to cry about Joni Mitchell all the time after a few glasses of wine,” revealed Taylor. “All my friends would know, once I started crying about Joni Mitchell, it was time for me to go to bed.”
Some time later, Swift also said that she would listen to Mitchell for her wise words as well. Apparently, she was such a big aficionado of the folk artist that she even burned out one of her albums playing it so much. In another talk with New York Magazine, the “Welcome to New York” singer shared, “I think it was Joni Mitchell who said that, ‘Songs are what you think of on the drive home … You know, the Great Afterthought.”
What’s your response to the Joni Mitchell, Taylor Swift trending story? Swift has also been in the news this week aside from Mitchell saying no to the beautiful blonde for the upcoming lead movie role. There were rumors of tension on “The Voice” set between Swift and Adam Levine at one point, with some saying the Maroon Five singer “ripped” the “1989” star for pulling her music from Spotify. Fortunately, based on their playful relationship on the show at the time, it looks like Levine and Swift have no rifts between them.
