The JW Marriott Houston Downtown celebrated its grand opening on November 19 with representatives from JW Marriott Hotels & Resorts and operator Pearl Hospitality in attendance, the hotel company announced Wednesday in a press release. The 328 room property is located at 806 Main Street, in the 104 year old Samuel F. Carter Building, billed as “Houston’s first skyscraper”.
“Houston’s downtown is not only a hub of global commerce, but is also home to a thriving arts, cultural, and culinary scene,” said Mitzi Gaskins, vice president and global brand manager for JW Marriott Hotels & Resorts. “We are excited to be celebrating this landmark opening in one of the city’s most flourishing neighborhoods. JW Marriott Houston Downtown is a milestone addition to the JW portfolio, providing guests with incomparable experiences from a curated art collection and the first Spa by JW to superior cuisine at Main Kitchen restaurant, all housed in Texas’ first skyscraper.”
In addition to standard rooms and suites, the hotel features executive and presidential suites. Other suites are designated aslong-term apartment rentals, and four of the suites are “wellness-inspired” spa suites. All rooms and suites have a 55 inch LCD TV, an iPod docking station, Nespresso, machine, WiFi, and touch screen room controls. The rooms are also outfitted with iPads which allow guests to book dining reservations, spa appointments, order room service, contact the valet and concierge desks, and access local area information.
The hotel is also the first to launch the brand’s new spa concept, Spa by JW. Developed by spa partner Aromatherapy Associates, the spa experience is billed as a “reimagining of the spa experience”, offering a product that is “intuitive and luxurious, yet purposeful with treatments and benefits designed to address four core benefit states: Calm, Indulge, Invigorate, and Renew.” Guests can select from shorter treatments ranging from 12 to 25 minutes in duration, or from traditional 60 to 90 minute spa services.
“Our guests are incredibly passionate about well-being but they don’t always have the time to invest in cultivating it. They are looking for an experience that delivers true impact and results that are tailored to their state of mind,” said Mitzi Gaskins, vice president and global brand manager for JW Marriott Hotels & Resorts. “Spa by JW offers an environment where you canchoose exactly what you want, when you want, without any of the intimidation or hassle.”
Some of the shorter, “express” treatments include the Relaxing Scalp Massage (Calm), Hydrating Hands (Indulge), Energy Boost Massage (Invigorate), and the Nail Shine (Renew). Shorter treatments can be booked on the spot without the need for advance reservations.
The hotel’s interior design credit goes to Wilson and Associates and MBCM Incorporated, who worked to create a “dynamic fusionof old and new, past and present”. The hotel’s interior spaces pay homage to Houston’s art community, with 18 original works by Texas, national, and international artists.
“Houston’s phenomenal growth continues to capture national and international headlines and the JW Marriott Houston Downtown perfectly reflects the city’s vibrant arts and culinary scene,” said Natalie Wiseman, Director of Sales & Marketing. “In a city famous for its generous hospitality, we are thrilled to welcome local guests and visitors to experience this amazing new hotel.”
Rack Rate for standard rooms starts at $429 per night, although discounts may be offered based on availability, day of week, and season.
