A dog named Kai finds a home, and his story is now going viral once again. Kai was found abandoned at a train station in Scotland in January, and the Scottish SPCA was desperate to find this pup a home. Sky News reported on Feb. 4 that the dog now has a home.
On Jan. 2, Kai was spotted at the Ayr Railway Station with just a few items. There was a suitcase, some food, a bowl, and a toy. The dog looked lonely and sad. It was soon revealed that the dog was to be sold by its previous owner. However, the new owner did not claim Kai at the train station. The dog was left abandoned there.
The story of Kai’s abandonment went viral, and that caused an outpouring of requests to adopt the dog. It took the Scottish SPCA some time to sort through all of the adoption requests. Some requests came from locations far from Scotland, including New York and the Philippines.
The Scottish SPCA narrowed down their options and selected Ian Russell as Kai’s new owner. Russell, aged 52, had just lost his dog of 15 years before Christmas, so he considered the Scottish SPCA’s decision like “winning the lottery.”
Russell shared more about Kai’s new home. He said the following, according to The Scotsman:
“When I heard about Kai I knew the little guy needed a break but I never thought in a million years I’d get him. I called the Scottish SPCA just to check he was okay and see if there was anything I could do to help. Fast forward a few weeks and here I am taking him home. I honestly think it was meant to be. I work all over Scotland, mainly outdoors, driving wherever I’m needed in my van.
Kai will come with me and when it’s appropriate I’ll let him out to run around and play safely while I work. Then we’ll jump back into the van together and head to the next place. We’ll be able to hang out all the time. Being the one to rehome Kai is a bit like winning the lottery and I’m really looking forward to getting him home and bonding with him.”
Russell also made sure to mention that there are many other animals with stories like Kai’s that need homes. Those that are looking to add a pet into the family should check the animal shelters in their area for their pet.
Alan Grant, from the Scottish SPCA, also mentioned the number of animals they have in their care that need good homes. Grant also shared the reasons behind Ian’s selection as the new owner of Kai:
“One of the reasons we chose Ian was right from the start he said he was interested in rehoming Kai but he would take our advice if we thought one of the many other dogs in our care would suit him better. It was really important for us to select an owner who wanted Kai for all the right reasons and had really thought through their decision to take on a rescue dog. We know Kai will have a fantastic new life with Ian and we couldn’t be happier for him.”
Kai is lucky that the Scottish SPCA took him and helped him find his new forever home. What do you think of this dog’s story?
