Kenny Chesney will be receiving a special award celebrating his tremendous career in country music. The “American Country Countdown Awards” announced on Nov. 24, 2014 that Chesney will be presented with the Groundbreaker Award during the award show that is taking place at Nashville’s Music City Center.
Chesney has worked hard for this award and has earned many accomplishments leading up to this honor including selling over one million tickets for 11 of his headlining tours since 2002 and by earning a spot as the only country artist on Billboard’s Top 10 Touring Acts of the Last 25 Years. Chesney has received multiple awards over the years which include being named the “Academy of Country Music Awards” Entertainer of the Year eight times.
Chesney received the trophy in the Favorite Artist category from “American Music Award’s” and has received four “Country Music Association Awards.” Chesney’s fans have also shown their love for his music by helping him reach the 30 million albums sold mark. Chesney is keeping things moving with his music by making his return to the road for “The Big Revival Tour” which starts up on March 26, 2015 in Nashville, Tenn. with tour stops planned in 55 cities including 20 stadium stops and bringing new music with his latest album titled The Big Revival.
“American Country Countdown Awards” Executive Producer Mark Bracco said The Groundbreaker Award recognizes how Kenny has revolutionized the live music experience for Country fans” adding “He is a true groundbreaker, moving country music into new directions with his pioneering, record-breaking tours that have propelled him into one of the very biggest live performing artists in America. Kenny is the perfect recipient for our very first show.”
Chesney showed his gratefulness for being chosen to receive the award by saying “Given what the ‘American Country Countdown’ radio show has meant to the music over the past 40 years, it’s humbling to be singled out like this” adding “For me, this music has always been about the fans – how we see them, what we give them and the way country moves them. It often starts with ‘American Country Countdown,’ watching that climb, getting invested. It did for me, so I’m not surprised to see them wanting to award the artists in a way that recognizes innovation and achievement.”
Luke Bryan leads the nominee list with seven heading into the show while Florida Georgia Line received six nominations. Jason Aldean is in the running with nominations in three categories while Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton each are in the running for two awards. Performances are lined up for the show from Bryan, Lambert, Eric Church, Carrie Underwood, Aldean, Brett Eldredge and Florida Georgia Line who will also be taking the stage as hosts during the “American Country Countdown Awards” on Dec. 15, 2014 at 8 p.m. EST on FOX.
