Just when a mother thinks she’d always known her daughter well…
Lacy Eye, by Jessica Treadway, is a psychological drama that introduces the narrator, Hanna Schutt, who has to relive her near-death experience from three years ago. In the beginning, Hanna and her husband, Joe, never came to realize that the happiness of their youngest daughter, Dawn, would end up with their lives in danger. It all starts when Dawn introduces her new boyfriend, Rud Petty, to them and her sister, Iris. Although they all do their best to make Dawn’s boyfriend feel welcome, they grow suspicious of his actions, which leave them all in an awkward place while he’s in their company. Things get worse, during one night, when Hanna and Joe are brutally beaten while in their bed. Rud, then, is the suspect. Joe dies from his injuries, while Hanna suffers some memory loss of the incident. At the same time, she chooses to live in denial and regret.
Three years later, while she is trying to cope and to live her life normally, Hanna is informed that Rud wins an appeal and Hanna is asked to testify at the trial to keep Rud in jail. Meanwhile, Dawn moves back home, claiming to be out of money. While Dawn is back home, Hanna is forced to recall the night where her life was nearly taken. As soon as the memories come back, Hanna has to face the reality of what her daughter has become.
