The Race of Champions Asphalt Modified Tour will visit the rechristened Lancaster National Speedway four times during the 2015 season, the most in the series’ 22-year history.
Some of the best Modified drivers of all-time have competed at Lancaster in past years, including Richie Evans, Dutch Hoag, Roger and Merv Triechler, Maynard Troyer, Sege Fidanza and Jan Leaty, as have current stars Chuck Hossfeld, Matt Hirschman, Erick Rudolph, Andy Jankowiak and Mike Leaty.
“The Race of Champions Modified Tour events are the most popular dates with our fans on the stock car schedule,” said new Lancaster National Speedway general manger Melissa McGowan. “We thought that this year, with the new management in place, it would be a perfect time to step up our involvement with the tour.”
Lancaster National Speedway will host the season-opening 75-lap race for the RoC Tour on Sunday, April 19th, harkening back to the ‘70s and ‘80s, when Lancaster opened its season in mid-April with a major Modified race.
“We are excited to reinstate a season opening tradition,” said McGowan, “it is one of many ways in which we will rebuild and continue the rich history of this speedway.”
The Tour returns on Thursday, June 25th for a special mid-week 60-lap show, the shortest race on the tour schedule. It’s followed by the Tommy Druar/Tony Jankowiak Memorial 110 on Saturday, August 15th. Lancaster also hosts the second-to-last race of the RoC season, the U.S. Open 125, on Sunday, September 27th.
“We are all about our historical past with our RoC events, the history at Lancaster with Modified racing is hard to replicate and the events we run there are traditionally some of the most exciting on the series,” said Race of Champions Modified Tour director Andrew Harpell.
Lancaster National Speedway and Dragway will announce more details for the 2015 season in January. A new website will soon be up at www.lancasternationalspeedway.com – until then, visit the track’s Facebook page or Twitter feed for updates.
