In the last episode, the squad tries to get a serial rapist who is attacking small women in the early morning.
In this week’s show, titled “Forgiving Rollins”, Patton (Harry Hamlin, LA Law) shows up in town and is accused of raping someone but the only way that he can be convicted is if Rollins admits what he did to her.
Patton is talking about the case that he helped solved with SVU and Rollins is less then pleased with him around. When Rollins sees Patton’s new detective, Reese (Dreama Walker, The Good Wife), she gets really uncomfortable. Perhaps she sees herself in Reese. Sure enough, Reese is raped over the night. A new case for SVU to try and solve.
When Reese starts talking with Rollins/Benson, Rollins gets pulled away. But it looks like she is more relieved then anything. She knows who it is and can’t believe it happened again. Reese tells Benson that it was Patton that raped her and Benson sees the seriousness in the case.
Dodds comes in and puts his two sense in. He of course plays devil’s advocate. And he thinks that Rollins could help them decide if Patton’s worth going after. She doesn’t give a direct answer. Since he’s not convinced that Patton is an assailant, he interrogates Patton.
During the questioning, Patton of course says that it was consensual (don’t they all). He says that she is accusing him because she wants him to leave her wife. Yeah, not exactly a believable statement. And then he throws Rollins under the bus. Saying that she came on to him. Fin doesn’t buy it.
Rollins opens up to Fin about what happened. She said that she had sex with him the first time to save her sister. Fin wants to do something about it and she says no but she does agree to talk to Barba.
Benson wants to push forward on the charge but Dodds says that since Reese won’t testify then it doesn’t matter. Rollins knows that Reese won’t unless she talks to her. It works and Patton is arrested.
Patton’s right hand man, Reynolds, confronts Rollins and it fires her up. She is more determined to take Patton down.
Barba tries once again to get Rollins to talk on the stand but of course she refuses.
Dodds meets with Patton, Barba, and Patton’s lawyer to try and dismiss the charges. Patton of course continues to try and use his charm and what little power he has in Atlanta to get the charges dropped but Barba doesn’t bite.
To trial we go.
Reese tells her story and surprising there is no objects from the defense. Reason being. He had his own agenda. He is trying to make it seem like they were having an affair and that alcohol could be a factor.
Reese convinces Rollins to take the stand but the judge won’t let her testify because it would be prejudicial. So Barba says he will take down Patton himself. He knows his smugness will get him.
Barba gets Patton to talk about Rollins (even though it was stricken from the record). But you can’t unring a bell. When the questioning goes south, Patton has a heart attack. But it turns out to be an anxiety attack.
Benson tries to talk to Rollins about what happened to her and she says to get help. We all know that she won’t.
It looks like Patton may have set that up so that he wouldn’t go down for Rape One so that he can plea down and not get jail time. At least he goes on the registry and he has to resign. That’s something at least.
In the next episode, the unit try and take down a famous actor who is accused of raping 15 year old girls and stuffing them in suitcases.
