Prior to visiting Legoland Discovery Center Westchester in Yonkers, New York, be sure to purchase your tickets online for the best bargain. Once inside, the first stop is the Lego Factory Tour. Walk through the brightly colored room to see where Legos are born. Check out the dynamic machines that show Legos from beads of plastic to heating, molding and painting. Before you leave the factory, don’t forget to get your souvenir Lego at the delivery station.
After the tour, take the Kingdom Quest Laser ride to help save a mythical princess. Grab your laser gun to shoot the electronic enemies and targets and rack up points where parents and kids compete. Don’t forget to smile, as your picture will be taken on the ride and if you like it, you can purchase it later in the day.
Bring your camera to take pictures of Miniland, where New York City is constructed of over a million Lego bricks. Check out the easily recognizable landmarks of the Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building and One World Trade Center, and see if you can recognize the sports stadiums.
Next stop, head for the Lego Racers: Build & Test Zone. Build a racecar using the bins filled with Legos and then test them on the big race tracks. When the metal gate drops, compete to see whose car is the fastest. This area is best for bigger kids, as tots will have many small pieces within their reach. Next to the racing zone is the Master Builder Academy, children and adults can get instructions from a Lego teacher.
When it is time for adults to take a break, the kids can have a blast in the Lego Fire Academy or the Lego Construction Site. Both sites are enclosed in a colorful jungle gym. For the very little kids, the Lego Duplo Village is an animal themed area with a pit with huge, soft Duplo blocks.
For the girls, there is a Lego Friends section. The young ladies can sing karaoke and another indoor ride, Merlin’s Apprentice, where they can pedal around in a chariot (height restrictions apply).
The Lego 4D Cinema continuously runs short movies. If you are hungry, there is a café that sells a variety of food and drinks, and before exiting the center, you will walk through the gift shop, the most difficult place to go if you are on a budget.
