“All or Nothing”
The three words that defines the roller coaster approach of crowd funding which gives creatives and entrepreneurs the opportunity to make their passion projects come true. However, despite all the great success stories, in reality, Kickstarter campaigns have only a 43% success rate.
“Make Room For Your Own Dreams”
Not sitting idle, animation producer, director, LeSean Thomas challenges those odds with the launch of his own Kickstarter campaign for his animated adventure project, Cannon Busters: Animated Series Pilot. Animation followers are likely familiar with the title Cannon Busters, as it started out as a comic book, with the intentions of making it a bi-monthly series. However, that goal was set aside once LeSean was approached to join the “Boondocks,” animated series as Co-Director, which led to working on the animated series, “Black Dynamite,” in Burbank, CA. Now with solid industry credits behind his name, LeSean decided on November 2, 2014, to launch Cannon Busters, live on Kickstarter, as he felt it was time to provide animation fans with something new and unique, and not currently seen on television.
“If Funded It Will Create A Dialogue Within The Animation Industry”
In the animation world, few projects are created and produced by Americans, while creatives overseas do the large bulk of work. While it may be easier to wait for networks to green-light shows, LeSean hopes to be an example on how to succeed without a large studio in this new digital age. Cannon Busters, also sets itself apart by having a female lead character, S.A.M., which young girls have already proudly took notice. LeSean understands, “cartoons can affect a child at a very early age,” therefore, it is important to see that diverse images exist in all forms.
“A Grassroots Movement”
The Cannon Busters’ campaign ends December 2, 2014, and donations are still needed in order to reach its goal. The team behind Cannon Busters, includes an international roster of talented artist including, Joe Madureira, contributing character designer; Thomas Romain, mechanical designer; Tim Yoon, consulting producer; Bahi JD, animator, as well as, Satelight Inc., Japanese Animation Studio.
With the help of $5 to $15 donations, LeSean is hopeful his project will be fully funded.
